Some of you may have seen the PBS Special about Cloud.

Cloud: Wild Stallion of the Rockies
This was/is a real wild horse, living his life up in the hills of Montana.
I understand fertility control. I don't disapprove of smaller roundups.
However, the Bureau of Land Management, after one of the BEST forage seasons ever, decided the horses are "starving" and planned a large roundup, breaking up Cloud's band and extended family. Stallions were penned together and vicious fighting ensued. A foal was lame after coming out of the chute the wrong way. Older horses who will never be adopted are in a corral--what will happen to them?

YouTube - The Capture of Cloud's Herd
Ultimately, Cloud and his mares were released, but the family was broken up.
I am not fond of conspiracy theories, but find it suspicious and wonder if there is to be a change in the use of this land. Mining? Drilling? I dunno.
This was a sustainable herd of wild horses. They were not starving, they don't overgraze. Nature can regulate the herd's population. That's one of the reasons mountain lions exist.
The Managed Extinction of Cloud's Herd
I am writing/calling my Senator and Senate Committee of Natural Resources to pass this bill:
S.1579 - Restore Our American Mustangs Act (to be amended)

They probably want to sell off more grazing rights.

The BLM has removed more wild horses from public lands than they left behind free. Half the ranges set aside for them by Congress in 1971 are completely empty of horses and full of private cattle who graze at a loss of over 100 million dollars annually. Mining and drilling are also given priority, even in wild horse refuges like the Pryors where Cloud lives.
