Has any one noticed a trend Omaha is really on a roll it seems like every week the city gets a new company coming to the city or metropolitan area.

I would love to know if any one here has a list of all the new companies that have been moving into the Omaha area lately?

Not only that but they are building the condo's downtown like hotcakes and they seem to have rather high demand, it seems like Omaha really knows how to shine. Alot of it is because Omaha has alot of very afflunt baby-boomer demographic. It also seems like Omaha is a meeca for hospital construction, its just completely amazing how much hospital construction and hospitals Omaha has for a city of around 425,000 people and a metro of 825,000 people. Its just a shame because the legislature is so busy spending on capital projects on declining rural areas of the state and Universities with rather stagnant enrollments such as the University of Nebraska Lincoln that University of Nebraska medical center doesnt get the infrastructure expansions they need.

The only negative thing getting in Omaha's way is the state of Nebraska legislature which is Lincoln's cheer leader its a complete abomination that University of Nebraska Lincoln would get a budget increase and why are any of their science facilities located in Lincoln, they should be located in Omaha where the medical facilities area. Personally, its amazing this majority anti-Omaha legislature raises the salaries of state college and University of Nebraska Lincoln instructors when they should do all they can to increase them to make the University of Nebraska Omaha competitive with other institutions around the country.

Lincoln on the other hand, thanks to do the legislature and Dave Heinemans cheerleading for the declining cesspool over vibrant Omaha (with the excepetion of its downtown which could still use a bit of work in some areas but its getting there) has seen decent economic growth its ranged from 1 to 2 percent year to year over the last several month but its still a lower wage county then the largest county in the poorest state in America (Hinds County, Mississippi).

The one suprising devolopment on Lincoln is its property tax base stinks they have for rent and for sale signs everywhere. The city has a massive budget deficit, which is ironic considering the economic is okay its more the property values stink. Or more bluntly too many Lincolnites live in low-value wooden shacks, trailer-parks or old-run down homes and have way too babies and they have way too many parks. Some thing has to change but it wont (except for increasing property taxes to encourage senior citizens to move) so this town is a cesspool even by Nebraska standards.

It seems like while Omaha is doing great, South Sioux City, the corn belt around the tri-cities, North Platte all doing very good.

The one excpetion in this state seems to be Lincoln, this town just seems to be going down-hill very fast. But then again I am sure with the latest census numbers they can gloat the city is in increasing in population when in fact its just mainly people having lots and lots babies.

Mattden,

You're just ridiculous! To suggest that Sioux City and North Platte are doing "better" than Lincoln (whatever that means) is just silly!

Your posts lack all credibility when you post stuff like that.

I love how you randomly pick "the largest county in the poorest state" to draw your conclusions about Lincoln!

You are aware that the "largest county in the poorest state" makes no statement as to the overall wealth of the said county?? Its a slight of hand and completely and deliberately misleading. The socio-economic conditions in Mississippi are completely different than what exist in Lincoln/Nebraska.

And quit with the "having lots and lots of babies" junk. That's just a lie...plain and simple.

Your diatribe reads like propaganda...get a life.

Yeah, you're right: Hardly any growth in Lincoln

http://eteamz.active.com/nebraskafootballschool/images/MemorialStadium2929.jpg (broken link)

NEBRASKA MEMORIAL STADIUM: Probably the best fans in college football are Nebraska fans. Every football game in Lincoln has been a sell-out since the mid '60's. For the first time, more than 80,000 Husker fans will be able to watch Big Red as the latest addition is completed prior to the 2006 season. More than 6,000 seats are being added in the North stadium as part of the Memorial Stadium Expansion Project. The Osborne Athletic Complex which will include a new locker room for the Huskers as well new coaches offices, recruiting areas and workout facilities.

I can't believe this site will even let you post anything on here. You have the right to say bad things about a city, but only if they are VALID, and not one thing you have said about Lincoln is true. We live in nice houses, not wooden shacks. And another thing, the population is going up because more and more people are moving here, not because people have so many babies.

You point out a lot of negatives with Lincoln and a lot of positives about Omaha and try to put the decisions of the State Legislature at the core of those positives/negatives. The credit for most of the negatives and positives at the city level goes to the city administration, mayor and city council - not the legislature. The legislature sets the tone for state level government and then the cities work under those rules.... both Lincoln and Omaha operate under the same set of state rules.

Is the local leadership and the local economic development groups and the local chamber of commerces and the local business leaders and the local philinthropic groups and the local citizens that priimarily determine the future of their local city.

They don't, he was banned a while ago, thats why it says hes not a member.
And I actually think that Lincoln gained more people than Omaha did last year. Besides, I like Dave Heineman, he saved Millard, Elkhorn, and Westside school districts from being annexed by OPS.

Numbers wise, Omaha grew by 10,000 and Lincoln by 4,000

With that said, the percentage rate of growth is a bit faster in Lincoln..
