Default Life in Cody-Kilgore?

Hello,

What life like in rural Cody-Kilgore Nebraska? I am doing some research on
rural, isolated towns on the Great Plains and I am wondering about this area.

What to teens do for fun there? What is life like for the average adults and
parent?

Maybe there are even more isolated towns that Cody-Kilgore that I have missed.

Thanks

Most people in this school district don't actually live in town. Consequently, if you're bored, tough luck. You're miles from town, as well as your friends.
Weekend nights will be ball games, driving around with friends, pasture/house parties, hanging out a friend's house, etc. (Frankly, I grew up this way and still have no idea what else teens would want to do. lol)
They also play a lot of Wii, Facebook, etc. just like everyone else.

So far as adults, well, that's the thing about adults no matter where they live.
They tend to hang out at home and watch TV.

Default ok

Ok, thats interesting. So most of the students at Cody-Kilgore, do not actually live in Cody?

I guess they live on the surrounding farms and ranches?

Pretty much.
Keep in mind, Cody (where the 7th-12th grade is) is a community of only 130 people. The entire jr hi/HS is around 100. And that includes the kids from the Kilgore area. So yeah, most of them are ranch kids.

I grew up on a farm/ranch and went to school in a town of less than 2,500. Our High School had around 250 kids in grades 9 through 12. Before High School I always envied the city kids during football and baseball seasons because they could get a game together almost anytime they wanted to. Sometimes I would intentionally miss the school bus just so I could get in on these impromptu games. I would catch hell from my Dad because I wasn't at home taking care of my chores but he would make the eleven mile drive into town after sundown to pick me up. He wanted to make sure I was at home to do the before school chores after all. I would have enjoyed being able to play ball games several hours every day but if I had lived in town I would have never been able to grab the twenty two rifle and go hunting or plinking whenever I had extra time. My swimming hole also had fish in it and none of the irritating chlorine the city kids had to put up with. With the exception of harvest time Dad and Mom always took us in to town for the Saturday movie matinees and a trip to the local library to stock up on the weeks reading materials. Boredom was a concept I could never understand. The problem I had as a kid was finding enough time to fit in all of the activities I enjoyed. Maybe things have changed down on the farm since the advent of computers and all of the gizmos available to kids now. Take all of the gadgets away from a kid and his imagination will find a way to keep their self entertained.

My kids have recently been experimenting with how much they can smash with an old tire they roll down the hill.

It is more about about who you spend time with then what there is to do.
And being able to spend time alone with your imagination when others are not available.

That brings back memories of my near death experience from rolling down a hill inside an old tractor tire my Dad used to unload grain into for the auger to lift up into a grain bin. My death almost happened from the spanking my Dad administered to my butt after I smashed through his brand new six wire barbed wire fence he had worked on for two weeks.

LOL I've never known anyone that has actually done it but then I don't usually associate with stupid people. I wonder if MYTHBUSTERS has ever tested this one?
