Whenever I hear somebody use the term "Midwest", the question in my mnd is "(Great) Lakes or (Great) Plains?"; sometimes, that's my immediate reply.

Ya, the Great Lakes and Great Plains really don't have much in common in terms of climate, culture, tree coverage, population densities, political affiliations, etc. Those from the coast aren't really aware of how diverse the Midwest is.

Just judging from the map, I would say south-central Nebraska, if things divide that way in the state.

Some old contacts from there that used to live here (and I haven't yet been to NE; one day; only have been as close as I-25 (on the west) and Rushmore (on the north)) and since we prayed a lot for the towns (Norfolk, Omaha, Hastings, and Lincoln) where we knew people, among others, I felt I could chime in.

Its basically in the middle of the country which should be the Midwest. Though so many in this country have thier own idea of where the midwest is. I have heard some now refer to Pittsburg as the midwest.

Nebraska is both the Midwest and the Plaines states

It is mostly Plains. Nebraska has very little in common with the Great Lakes states to the east.

My DH, from Omaha, likes to refer to NE as "Mid-Plains". There is constant discussion on the PittsburgH forum regarding Pittsburgh's actual identity. The general consensus is "Northeast".

Nothing about it geographically is west.

You are correct. It is more "midwest" than Ohio, Pennsylvania, or Indiana.
