Our small town needs a nice place to eat. If you want to make a move and open a resturant I have the location for you!We have a few fast food places but the nearest fine dining place is 25 miles away. You can see the whole town there on any night of the week.

Great idea but it might help if you tell us where your town is or what it's name is!

I have often wondered why the residents of the region don't band together, utilize an economic development group and/or the local home town bank, and provide their own service. The folks who own it are then the ones that would be incented to use it. Win-win all the way around.
There are examples throughtout the state where some towns have done this for a grocery store, a coffee shop, a theatre, and I think even a bank in one case. The consumer becomes the owner. The profits stay local. It also has a tendency to spur some other economic development, especially in the smaller areas. Citizens could own shares in the new business or it could be set-up as a co-op. again, I think both models have been used. Personally I like the corporation with shareholders and a board. Much cleaner, especially when folks need to (or want to) transition their ownership for whatever reason. Also can tap into a local college's business program for expertise (e.g. Chadron State for the panhandle). Creation of the program could be an undergraduate class project or a self-study program for a handful of master's level studens. |
