"looking at the people that shopped there..the highlight of the day was listening to the two classic, stereotypical looking hunters, walking across the parking lot, making animal sounds at each other..."
Ha Ha- love this description! If we'd never been to Fort Worth, I'd think those hunters were my husband and brother-in-law!! That was awesome, thanks for the chuckle!

SIDNEY is the original location of Cabelas and the Cabela's family. You should see where is started if you such a fan.

Question about hunting- tell me if I'm wrong here, but I heard that each person can get TWO whitetail tags. Is this correct? How about in Iowa- I heard it was even higher.

Don't know the answer to your question, but here is a web site that I think you can find out the answer.
Nebraska Game and Parks Commission Homepage
If I had to decide I would give you as many as you wanted as we have enough deer in Nebraska as it now.

No it did start in Sidney and at one time it was Nebraska's leading tourist attraction.

Racechick,
Yes, in the past you could get two tags. However, that's not a permanent thing...its simply dependent on how over populated the local whitetail population is. Also, if I remember correctly its not a state wide thing, but rather a regional thing. Again, its dependent upon the local whitetail population.

Thanks, Matt- once we get settled in, we'll do the research. I hear corn-fed whitetail is some good eatin'- looking forward to that!

Cabela's is worth the visit
We live about 45 minutes from the Sidney store, and we have yet to see a Cabela's store that matches the Sidney one. Sure, there may be bigger ones but this one is the most helpful and has the best stuff. Check out the bargain basement if you have time.
Sidney is the home of Cabela's now, but isn't the actual starting place. It was started by Dick Cabela in Chappell. The original location is now the home of Cabela's Furniture Store and is worth a stop as well. Its only about 30 minutes from Sidney.
If you stay in Sidney, the best hotel is the AmericInn (owned by Cabela's I've heard) and you need to eat at the steakhouse next door.
Have fun in our area... we hope to make it to Alaska soon!

If you stay in Sidney stay across the interstate at the Holiday Inn, it has a restaurant and lounge. It's much nicer than the AmericInn. The only nice thing about the AmericInn is the decor. We've stayed at both, it's bad enough to have to stay somewhere that doesn't have down comforter's(see how spoiled I am!) at the least it should have a comfy bed, and restaurant.
