Default Dannebrog, NE & Grand Island, NE

Used to enjoy seeing those monthly "Postcard From Nebraska" segments on the CBS Sunday Morning show, with Roger Welsch. He did many of these over several years.

We'll be in Dannebrog and Grand Island in late August. Is there an eatery in Dannebrog or Grand Island that is a 'must' to visit?

The UPRR mainline runs through Grand Island, NE. Is there a good safe place for a railfan to watch trains?

Thanks!
s/Mike

In Dannebrog there is the Liar' Bar in the downtown area. I think that is was made know by Roger Welsch one some of his segments. Roger Welsch is also from Dannebrog just if you did not know. There is also a small diner on the highway in Dannebrog where they cook you home cooking food. It is small and seating is limited, but if you do get a chance to try it give it a try. It is a place where many travel on Sunday for their home made pancakes after church. This diner is on the north side of the highway. This is about all that I remember being in Dannebrog area. In Grand Island you have a place that is called the Farmer's Daughter Cafe. It is in the downtown area close to the court house and jail. There is a large parking area across the street. They have a house special peanut butter pie. They will not tell you how they make it, but if you are in Grand Island stop here even if it is for the peanut butter pie.

You can walk from the Fameris Daughter Cafe to the train tracks which are only about two or three blocks norht of the cafe. You will also be walking by the downtown area where they have several small shops that you also might find interesting. Just stay off the tracks and you will be safe in watching the trains go by.

Just got back, had a great trip to SD and NE.

Bummer for us is that both Farmer's Daughter and Danish Bakery were closed on Sunday, so we missed both of them.

Thanks to all who helped.
