'The pipeline route originally approved by the State Department would cross an important aquifer, which supplies irrigation and ground water to a third of the American midwest.
It also crossed an iconic region known as the Sand Hills, home of Nebraska cowboys.' [1]
Latest news is that the Obama administration is
waffling in its determination to see the KeystoneXL tar sands pipeline routed through six states. Including Nebraska, where the legislature has become somewhat vociferous.
TransCanada is making idle threats to abandon its project if it does not get its preferred route. But with Alberta's premier, Alison Redford scheduled for another lobbying session in Washington, D.C. next week, the agenda more likely focused on how this pipeline can still be ramrodded through. If stymied in that, then likely at minimum some other route U.S. citizens may not notice or care as much about.
Such as the aquifer of a third of the American midwest, which they likely do.

A deal has been struck between TransCanada and Nebraska to move the pipeline away from the Sandhills and the Ogallala Aquifer. This was likely due to pressure from the Obama Administration to move the route in order to gain approval by the State Department. The State Department must approve the pipeline since it crosses an international border.

Do you really own it?

If you REALLY think about this situation you will find that you really don't own any real estate at all. You simply "rent" it through tax payments to local, state and federal governments. Try NOT paying your taxes and you will lose your property to the next highest bidder who might be your next door neighbor.
As for a pipeline easement, they hurt no one or nothing. None have ever been shown to do damage nor do they take away from your use of the land above where they are buried. IF negotiations are done right, you can collect on the easement yearly.
There are tens of thousands of miles of pipelines criss crossing this nation everywhere and they all benefit all of us one way or another.
The gasoline pipeline that runs near Omaha has always kept the price of gas down in that area.
Use your head and not your emotions on this issue. The oil from Canada will either be used in the USA for OUR benefit or it will be sold to China.

In other words, they are still sending it through the Sandhills, just a different part.
Why can't they just parallel their existing pipeline through the DIRT along the eastern border??

Picture showing how the new pipe comes from Montana.
This would be part of why they don't use the same route.
This does have the first route of the new pipe which has been changed slightly.

There's NO reason they can't use the same route.
They can just send it straight east, over toward Hartington and then south along the existing route... Or even southeast from Murdo to Yankton or so, then south.
It would solve the whole problem.

Here's an idea. Why don't we tell the TransCanada Pipeline to go F' itself. I mean, how will this pipeline benefit any of us? Oh yeah by creating "temporary" jobs so we can save half a cent on gas.

Laughing out loud. Use "your" head, making comments like that and making yourself look like an idiot.

The purpose of the $7.6 billion Keystone is to move 830,000 barrels of oil a day from landlocked Alberta to the Texas Gulf Coast, obtaining new customers and a higher price for heavy Canadian crude, Canadian regulators said in a 2010 report. The oil sold for $23.38 less per barrel in 2011 compared with heavy grades of Mexican crude, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
Hey so they want to take oil that's selling lower per barrel then anywhere else, and then make it so that they can sell at the same prices as everybody else! Brilliant. But wait, there's more.
Quote:
“The Canadian plan was to use their market power to raise prices in the United States (UNG) and get more money from consumers,” Philip Verleger, founder of Colorado-based energy consulting firm PK Verleger LLC, said in an interview. Prices may gain 10 to 20 cents in central states, he said.
Hey guys do you like paying .10 to .20 cents more a gallon for gas? I know I love to. Oh man all that cash that I don't have in my bank account is going to absolutely love this.
Quote:
Producers including Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM), Suncor Energy Inc. (SU) and Cenovus Energy Inc. (CVE) may reap as much as $4 billion more in annual revenue if prices rise as expected following the construction of the 1,661-mile (2,673-kilometer) Keystone XL conduit, the 2010 report says.
Such a change would erase the cost advantage for refiners such as Marathon Petroleum Corp. (MPC) and HollyFrontier Corp. (HFC), whose Midwest plants profited on cheaper oil supply.
Oh man do you work for Exxon? If not you are terribly misinformed.
Quote:
Canadian producers will be able to charge more for their oil after Keystone XL is built, boosting revenues by $2 billion to $3.9 billion, Canada’s National Energy (TAQA) Board said in the 2010 report approving of TransCanada’s pipeline plan.
The discount on Canadian crude “should be avoided in the future” if the pipeline were built, according to the report.
Completion of the entire pipeline would raise prices at the pump in the Midwest and Rocky Mountains 10 to 20 cents a gallon, Verleger, the Colorado consultant, said in an e-mail message.
The higher crude prices also would erase the discount enjoyed by cities including Chicago, Cheyenne and Denver, Verleger said.
You say it benefits all, I say it benefits none of us. I think you're lying and don't know the facts.
Maybe this will change your mind
