My husband is interviewing for a position in Hastings. I have lived in CA my whole life but am ready for a change. We have 3 school age children and are looking for a safe neighborhood to raise them in and one where we can rent a house for a little while. We would like to keep his commute to 30 min or less. Also, can anybody tell me about tornado activity there and what the winters are like? Any info that we can get will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I stayed at Lincoln for 3 years. Hastings is about 2 hours drive from Lincoln, but that does not change the overall geography of midwest. Hastings is a very small town close to Grand Island, which is not quite grand in any standard. You will get to see lots of cornfield around. Winter is usually brutal and summers are hot as hell. Tornadoes are real thing here, and almost across the prairie. People are super friendly.
