True, most winter days are clear and bright; I have gotten sunburned (no, not windburned) in January on exposed skin, and the sky is a brilliant blue... even if it isn't 50 or 60 deg, the weather - especially after a blizzard - is clear. The only thing that gives us pause is the wind... which in North Central Nebraska, blows almost all of the time!

This summer was great for hay; the grass is STILL green, usually it goes to arid browns and yellows by the end of June. However, it was lousy for heat and humidity, and we got a lot of rain. Everyone was saying, "Yeah, but you should be used to this!" Yeah, but I moved here to get AWAY from the humidity!

I thought so too because everyone that I talked to said oh Nebraska its going to be so cold and it does get quite cold in the winter and a lot colder than SC but then it also gets really hot and humid too! The only climates that are similar are Afghanistan, Mongolia, and parts of China for extremity! People have told me that my part of Nebraska used to be a lot less humid until people started to heavy duty irrigate. I guess we'll live with the humidity because it supports our livelihood but I wish it wouldn't get so darn hot! I think its even more brutally hot where I live because we are not far from the Kansas border - average of about 91-93 as a high in the summer with plenty of mid to high 90s and 100s this summer. That said it was a very hot summer everywhere. But not like Kansas or Oklahoma or Texas - that is way more brutally hot!

Nebraska is less humid than many states. When Nebraska gets humid the states to the south and east are almost always moreso.

Nebraska is not immune to humidity as it can be high, at times. This summer was bad, but you would have remembered how both the heat and humidity where much worse in those areas for a much longer time period. SC was hot and humid for many moths straight while Nebraska was only hot for a little over a month at worse.

Nebraska gets both hot and cold for sure. The heat and humidity is always less than it is in the south and the winter conditions are less brutal and for a shorter time period than in the north. Our uniqueness is that we get both, but for a shorter period timeframe distributed in two different seasons.

Too be honest. I don't like summer type of weather whether that is a beat-down dry desert heat or a slap in your face southern humidity.

The fall is the best season to me followed closely by spring and winter. Summer to me is just a drag which probably explains why I hate the south and the desert southwest.

Yep thats why in the summer I love the Rockies, Northern Minnesota, the UP of Michigan, Northern Wisconsin, Northern Ontario, etc to escape the summer heat!

I would love to have a small home in the Yukon or Northwest territories! I'd even brave out their extreme harsh winters for the fun of it.

That said, at least here in Nebraska our summers are shorter than in many places. I for sure wouldn't be living here if it were.

Nebraska has a nice balance. Like south dakota, the east side will be colder, and the west side, particularly around scottsbluff, is just ideal from what I've seen. It's not overly hot in the summer and in the winter there's so many days of 50's and 60's.. where I'm at it does not get above freezing in Dec, Jan, and Feb and the show that falls in Late November won't melt until March. On the plus side, that is quite pretty to see a sea of white. But I'd rather live somewhere where it's 20 below then gets up to 60 above.. I do like cold, I just like it broken up.

It warms up quite a bit just to the south though, the cutoff line for snow depth was very sharp, 50 miles between 15 inches and just a couple. Has to do with the ridge we live on, the couteau des prairies. It encourages northerly air from canada and southerly warm air has a hard time climbing up to reach here. This is just about the coldest city in South Dakota along with Watertown.

Eastern Nebraska's climate is similar to eastern Wisconsin's in the winter, with hotter summers. I do like eastern Wisconsin.
