Question How do you like living in western Nebraska?

We are thinking of relocating to western Nebraska. We are currently living in Iowa. We figure the climate probably isn't that much different but it is a higher altitude. We are at 1090 feet. We are thinking the humidity has to be less there. We want to know what people who live there think of the schools, taxes, jobs, etc. What we are looking for is a place away from crop spray, less humidity, and cleaner water.

I can't provide you specifics about the schoos, jobs, etc...but I doubt you see much change in climate or cleaner water in Western Nebraska. Personally, the only thing I do West of Lincoln is hunt. I'm checking out the Nebraska board because I've used this forum to help me decide to move from Lincoln to Denver, CO. I noticed NO ONE has replied to you on this topic so I figured I needed to.

What parts of West Nebraska are you looking into? Most people that live in Nebraska do consider anything West of Lincoln as West Nebraska. It's amazing how many of my friends whom grew up in Lincoln or Omaha have never left those 2 cities to explore Nebraska.

Good Luck.

Hmm, well thanks for replying. We are thinking far west like Sioux county. Maybe north of Scottsbluff, in that area. From looking at google earth it doesn't look like there are nearly as many crops out that way and I see from different real estate sites that a lot of the rural homes use water from private wells. We drove through the area a few years ago, some wonderful views out there.

You are correct. The humidity is less, fewer people, and the VIEW!!!!!! I don't live there, but travel through there and love it!

I chuckle at, anything west of Lincoln is WEST NEBRASKA. This is a great state. I was born and raised here and travel through the state with my work. Love it. Never underestimate the "rural" life.

I live in Kimball, NE which might as well be Colorado and/or Wyoming. I really miss the mountains....so to me, moving to Western Nebraska is silly. The people are good! The taxes seem to be a bit higher here in Kimball county....the schools are awesome! The closest city to me would be Cheyenne...but I will usually go to Denver. Good luck with your decision!

Norfolk is where Johnny Carson came from. It is a big city for Nebraska with a population of about 15,000 to 20,000. They have a large Hispanic population due to the meat packing plant that was there. I think that it closed. They had a bank robbery a few years ago where five people were killed. This was done by some Hispanics which were here illegally. They did not get any money just came into the bank and started killing people. It is a nice town and just like most towns outside of Lincoln and Omaha the people are very nice and friendly. The schools there are excellent. It is nice town to live in.
