They built a truck stop on the southeast edge of town with an Arby's!

It's been interesting reading about Ord on this thread here, thanks for sharing some memories/recolections/information.
Iwill be following up in the next few days with the people whom I applied for a job with in Ord, I will let y'all know how it turns out.
At this point, I really have no clue wether or not they're interested in interviewing/hiring me. Too early to say.
However, it seems like Ord pretty much has all the stuff I would need to get by/live on a daily basis.

Just got back from Ord a week ago
Lived in ord from about '75-'81. The old Chanticleer drive-in is gone and so is the ord drive-in. They have McDonald's and Arby's and have always had Pizza Hut as long as I can remember. I can remember Dr. Auble coming and playing the harp for us when I was in Grade school. They have really made Auble lake nice, it has a walking path all around it and benches, lights and all. Not a lot has changed, the pool is still the same, so is the grade school and the highschool. We lived at the airport for a short time. The museum is still there and so is the library. I can remember going and "skating" on Auble Pond (Lake) when I was a kid, it froze that hard. There is only the one grocery store, but Cetak's meat is still there! Can anyone else remember their weiners? We buy some everytime we go!

You will be impressed with Ord, it is amazing how the city has grown in the last few years, always expanding, it has everything you want, and it is one of the cleanest towns I have ever been in, certainly shows how much the people care about their property and the city. Great place, do lots of shopping there.
No I am not a resident, nor am I a chamber of commerce member, I live in that dump of a town to the west of Ord called Sargent. The folks in Ord have a city to be proud of.

I was born and raised in Ord. I graduated from OHS in 1977. There was never a Dairy Queen in Ord.
When I left Ord, there were three grocery stores, three hardware stores, several good restaurants, manufacturing, etc... I was in Ord last month and it was like seeing a dying friend.

I agree, xordite. They are trying to build things back up.
They're forming the Jaycees..... we're getting a second grocery store....

Xordite,
It wasn't technically a Dairy Queen, but the drive in tried ripping off Dairy Queen. In fact, I remember going to the drive in after swimming lessons (I grew up in a neighboring small town) and going for ice cream. It was funny because they had many dairy queen posters, but they covered the Dairy Queen symbol up with a red piece of construction paper. In fact, they may have even called some of the ice cream products "Dairy King" - but I'm not sure about that. The memory is somewhat fuzzy but they absolutely had some dairy queen symbolism going on, but that could have been for a brief time when I was a kid.
At any rate, nice memories!

Must have been the Ord Drive In. Was it near the swimming pool? My cousin worked there in high school and I went there for malts and burgers. YUM!
Ord was a good place to grow up. It might be a good place to retire.
