Oh no, its still pretty popular in smaller classes, and most teams are heavy on the the running game, but there a plenty of schools running different offenses than the option.

I should mention there is a good amount of schools that play 8-man football and a handful that play 6-man football. 6-man is really entertaining!

Wow, I have never heard of 6-man football. I bet it's very fast paced.

I grew up in small town Nebraska. We played 8-man football. Although, due to dwindling enrollment my highschool now plays 6-man football. We actually played it before I was in highschool, but moved to 8-man while I was in school. 6-man is quite the trip and it has quite a few unique rules. Here are the weirdest:
1) The quarterback cannot run the football past the line of scrimmage. 2) Every offensive player is pass eligible...even the center. 3) You cannot "handoff"....the QB/RB exchange must be a "pitch". It is very fun to watch. Unfortunately, politics has gotten in the way. The state no longer sanctions 6-man football and the number of schools that play it are very small. Its unfortunate because most schools playing 6-man were playing because they loved the game...its not like they had dreams of going to the NFL. Its not like they were hurting anyone. The reason they did it was to put added pressure into out-state highschool consolidation. A lot of the 6 man schools said "screw it" though and formed their own association. Its no longer state sanctioned but they have a 6 man division now that they govern on their own. The only difference is that they can't play their championship game in Memorial Stadium. There has been discussion about re-sanctioning the sport though...if it hasn't already...I'm not too up on it. P.S. As a note on "walk ons"...there were several Husker walkons in my hometown area (Shanle, Mackovicka, Schlessinger, Leggette, and many many others I can think of). So, this is the talent pool that BC is missing out on by not grabbing that "bleeding husker red" 8-man talent that exists in small town Nebraska. |

Two real notable fullbacks....impressive.

Three if you count both Mackovicka's. The Shanle brothers were also significant contributors. I believe all 5 at least got a shot in the NFL and Schlessinger and Shanle are/were major NFL contributors. Not bad for a bunch of no talent small town walkons! This is one thing Callahan has lost...players like that will now just go play at Iowa State or Colorado State, so they can be on scholarship and get playing time right away. It was the soul of the program and something that separated us from the rest of the country.

Yeah its a shame what the state did to 6-man. This year there championship will be in Kearney, not on one of there home fields. I believe it is on November 8th if you want to check it out.

You wanna know what would be real good for NU football
If the whole world stopped their dependance on fossil fuels, and switched to bio-fuels That way the great plains states' like nebraska, economies would be jump started by the immense demand for the fertile plant growing land that is states like nebraska. You guys would be the new middle east. Your population would soar, and you would have the money to keep feeding and breeding these fat kids to man your lines. |

The making of bio-fuels is also very bad for the environment. The burning of bio fuels is cleaner however. I have heard there may be little benefit other than depending on the Middle East.
