Yes, legally at 18 you can leave if you want to. I wouldn't leave on a bad note if at all possible, its tough being a parent, try seeing it from their point of view. Comparing one child to another can give kids a complex, some don't think out that part, they just want their children to do the very best they are capable of doing.

I would figure out exactly what your expenses will be if you do move out. Oh it can be fun, but not too fun when there is no extra for anything. I get sticker shock every time I figure the percentage small items increase at the grocery store. How about spending a couple weeks or a month with your friend, chipping in just like you would if a permanent living arrangement. Sometimes people can be good friends and still be hard to live with. Also it would give you a chance to see just how fast the money can go. Good luck to you.
