I'm the wife of german 71, I was wondering about ainsworth schools, the rating for the elementary school was low is it because of the number of students? the school our kids go to is ( to me) over crowded pre-k -5 (341 students this year) the building is'nt big enough for that many kids, they won't add on. any how, i just wanted to know which school is the best,we have an 8 year old and a 6yr.old. any info. would be appreciated.thank-you c.r.

I have some friends who have had their kids attend both Ainsworth & Bassett public schools. I can't say I have heard either of them complain about the school systems. I was thinking that Long Pine still had an elementry school there, but maybe they don't anymore.
Might I suggest that you contact the schools and arrange a visit. We did that with our son on our last move. The school was more than happy to arrange the visit.

Just rolled back into michigan from a visit to basset, valentine and long pine (where i bought a house) and i must say this is the most beautiful part of the country i have ever seen.Lots of wildlife, trees and hills was also suprised at the number of streams and rivers.I can not say one bad thing about nebraska from the roads to the water or the people who seem to go out of their way to make friends and help others.I love this state and the people and wished i would have moved here ten years ago.Sandhillsguru i will give you my phone number before i head out again(next 30 days)if you are still willing to show me the country.

If I am available I will do what I can. Coming into a busy time of year for me for sure. But we should be able to do something.
Glad you liked the area, I am sure you will like Long Pine. Pretty nice little community. You can pick up some pretty good cuts of meat at that grocery store there for sure. And Meadville, you got to get over there some weekend for a cool one.
Isn't that area something for beauty! Long Pine Creek, Hidden Paradise, Keller State park, Bobcat WMA, now if you don't mind a bit of a hike that place is worth a nice day's walk about for sure. The sandhills to the south of town. I think you are really going to like it there, LOL, I guess I have said that enough.

Might want to connect with SCGranny on this forum as well... she is getting ready to locate from out of state to the same general area - she's already been out there too and found a spot... might be able to compare notes, contacts, things to do, etc...

Meadville is straight north of Ainsworth on old Hwy 7 about 18 miles I think it is. You turn just west of the NE Dept of Roads yard located along the highway. Its paved about half the way out then turns to gravel/sand. Road will wind down into Niobrara Valley, cross the bridge, and about 1/4 mile on left. Just a bar is all that is left. But good food, good company. I believe it opens after 4 during the week and around 10 am on weekends.

Hi german! Yes we are moving too - closing May 30 - from SC to Cody. We never made it to Long Pine (I don't think we did) - we went thru a lot of places, following the river and then stopping by Wounded Knee on the way back. Funny - we coulda met you at the Cedar Canyon; we were staying at the Comfort Inn across the street! LOL
We are planning to be at the Star Gazer party at the Reservoir the last week in July, and will probably be doing a bar-b-q at the house once we get settled (potluck) to get to know people, current and new. So we'll be seein ya... You'll know us; everyone says we talk funny, ya'll...
