Newbie to Nebraska - City Slickers
Howdy!
This is my first of what I hope to be many posts over the years. I'm a Nebraska native, but have been out of the state for over 40 years.
My wife and I bought the farm so to speak yesterday as our offer on a former 5 acre hog operation in a windbreak near Cambridge was ACCEPTED! .
This is a big transition, and we hope you will follow along as we change from City Slickers to Country Folk at http://the-city-slickers.blogspot.com
We aren't farmers, nor do we want to be. We hope to learn much about agriculture and how it impacts the community and state, as well as become involved in our new hometown community. We bring extensive internet and high tech experience with us, and hope to share it.
We look forward to our future in Huskerland.
Brian & Margie

Good luck, welcome to Nebraska. I hope you enjoy Cambridge, my wife has a lot of family in southwest Nebraska, always thought it was a nice town.

Duh...
It's amazing how we think we know something, then decide we're not nearly as smart as we thought. Take for example the pronunciation of our new home community...Cambridge.
Is it Came-bridge or Kam-bridge?

Thanks! That's what we thought, but we were in the Talk Of The Town for dinner, and I swear I heard someone use the other variation. Maybe a non native like us.

Welcome back to Nebraska off pavement. Cambridge is a fantastic part of the state. I grew up in Eastern Colorado but moved to the Lincoln area to attend college. Highway 34 from Holdrege to the Colorado state line is one of my favorite drives. You are right in the middle of some of the best fishing and hunting in the Midwest. Make sure you put viewing the fantastic cloud formations in that area at the top of your list of things to see. The sunsets and sunrises in that part of the World have to be among the best on the planet. The Milky Way at night is much more impressive when it is viewed through air that does not contain a lot of pollutants. I have been searching for a few acres to build my dream home and shop in the Republican River valley area. It is time for me to get back to the country.

Bad Vibes
Thanks for the welcome! Only problem is our purchase is on hold due to some legal issues. It seems the seller may not be the owner anymore, so we're in limbo waiting to find out if our contract to purchase is valid or not. There is a glimmer of hope, but we figure we've got an even money chance of not being able to purchase this property and we'll start our rural property search all over again.
If this purchase falls through, we'll be pretty cautious of vacant property so as to avoid a nightmare like this again.

Roller Coaster Ride
Deal On! Gotta wonder how some stuff comes up, but legal issues are refuted by the principals involved so we still plan on livin' near Cambridge! I know real estate deals can and do fall apart right up to the last moment, so we'll try and be cautiously optomisitc from here on out.
