Turner Gill is probably the best Nebraska guy we can get. However I think we need to go with a defensive emphasis and keep Watson to run the offense and for transition purposes. The obivous answer would be Pelini but after reading several postings on ESPN and the World Herald, I kinda like the idea of the D-coordinator from Auburn (name escapes my mind), personally think his defense is better than Pelini, but if we hire Pelini I won't be disappointed. Grobe or Johnson would be good, but believe that Gill would beat them out because of his ties, even though they may be better coaches. Whatever happens all I really want is us to be back at the level that we should compete at. No more of these absolute blowouts and embarrassments.

LOL That's irrelvant.
Seriously...what does that have to do with anything??

Ok. You're the only Nebraskan, I've ever heard, even mention Solich in this search, so my initial contention holds...Solich is not even worth mentioning in this conversation. For the record, I liked Solich, but his time is over and anyone paying attention realizes that. The question was "who do Nebraskans" want as coach...not who you want. The two most popular candidates are Gill and Pelini. I can't even believe I'm arguing over this...

In light of the fact that the vast majority of this country can't even find Nebraska on a map,

First, the "vast majority" of the rest of the country does know how to find Nebraska on a map. Second, if you ask them what the major university in Nebraska is the two most common responses will be: "NU" or "University of Nebraska". I have worked for the university and have been all around the U.S., in an official capacity, and have not heard it called UNL by non-Nebraskans.

As far as the morons who can't point out Nebraska on a map...that still doesn't mean they haven't heard of Nebraska or NU.

And its relevant because the poster asked what the university was referred to as! I stated what it is in Nebraska and what it is outside of Nebraska. So how exactly are my comments "irrelevant"...just because you're trying to be a pain?? "LOL That's irrelevant" Oh please.
Okay....

I was trying to be light about a fun subject.
But you're just being deliberately rude...

You have a good 'un.

Default Ted Roof

Nebraska should look at Ted Roof--he is now available and has head coaching experience.

No. I was simply pointing out that facts don't always make a lot of difference to the Husker fan base.
And truth be told, I couldn't care less who we get in there, so long as it's not another Callahan, come to save us rednecks from our running game.

If I'd realized you were reading me wrong I could have corrected your misconception. But you were instantly on the attack. I simply don't know how to deal with people like that.

So, you have a good day.

I hope it is NU, and not UNL, or U of N or whatever.
While I like both Gill and Pellini, my guess is that the nod will go to Pellini.
Gill's expertise is offense and relatively speaking our offense wasn't bad at times. However, the pride of the Blackshirts was injured tremendously under Callahan. Pellini is a defensive genius, and we need to restore our focus on this area. Therefore, I think his expertise in defense will give him the edge over Gill.

At least with either Gill or Pellini we get a class act with integrity. Callahan was a "whiner" when he was losing at Oakland, even BEFORE he was fired there. If you listen to some of his interviews then after a big loss, he blamed it on his players, and never really assumed responsibility for a poor coaching job. Nebraska fans are the most loyal in the nation. We deserve a coach that sets an example for the players which includes personal character, respect for opponents, internal strength with humility, and a passion for winning with grace.

PS If Gill or Pellini turn down the opportunity, I would like to see Tyrone Willingham. He might move since the rumble at Washington is that they would like to replace him with Jim Mora, the current Seattle Seahawks assistant head coach. I think Willingham's coaching style would fit better at Nebraska than Washington.

ESPN says a source has said its down to Pelini and Gill. Who knows if that is true, but I would say that unless they hire someone in the next two days, it is really looking like Pelini and they are just waiting for LSU to play the SEC Championship. Same could be said for Michigan and Miles.

Yeah, there are so many reports out there now I have no idea which one to even consider believing. I saw an espn report that said it was down to Turner and Bo too...and it had said someone close to the source (whatever that means) was claiming that TO was going to name Gill in the coming days and that his "socks weren't knocked off" by Bo. Again, take it with a grain of salt because I've heard a number of other rumors stating the exact opposite.
