I think you're incorrect by saying Bo is an NFL guy. He left the NFL because his heart is in the college game. He could have easily stayed in the NFL and worked his way up. Why would he go from NU to OU to LSU if he was intent on going to the NFL. Look at his background and you'll see he got into the NFL because that was the first real option available to him. He literally when from being a highschool assistant to the 49ers. Then down the road he realized he wanted to be in the college game. I think he's exactly where he wants to be. Now, we could eventually lose him to OSU, but I don't think we need to worry about him jumping back to the NFL.
As for the Solich, TO , and Devaney comparisons. Well, its about expectation. Devaney came in and built the program, so the fact that he wasn't immediately going 10-1 is of no suprise. As for Solich's record being as good as Osborne's that's a matter of perspective. Osborne never won less than 9 games...ever. Solich had one season where we were 7-6. Furthermore, if Pederson would have given Solich a chance with the new staff he assembled I actually think Solich would still be coaching here. I don't think people were really calling for his head. In fact, the year he was fired i would say there was a general feeling of optimism. Pederson wanted his own coach and unfairly got rid of Solich. People were not calling for Solich's head the same way they were calling for Callahan's.
Time will only tell whether or not Bo is successful, but there is nothing that says headcoaches from other programs would be more successful at NU. Coaching at NU is a heck of a lot different than coaching at Cincinnati, Boise St., or Wake Forest. I think Bo has a better understanding of what needs done at NU than the headcoaching options that were out there.
