Nebraska is becoming a horrible state to live in. The legislature voted down minimum wage, Equality in the workplace and Medicaid expansion to name a few things.

I just heard that Nebraska is the second highest taxed state in the country. That's saying something with California and New York out there.

The plan was to move out of Nebraska when I retired, well, I retired and I'm still here. Duh!

States and the federal government have keep raising the minimum wage for 80 years now. Every time they raise it, the cost of everything goes up because the cost of all labor goes up. Inflation was nearly non existent before the minimum wage. Retirement keeps getting harder to save for, because the price of everything keeps going up, and the minimum wage is a big part of that.

The issue of gay rights is still a controversial issue, even if it is no longer one in mainstream media . Nebraska is a more religions state than many, and people are worried that the law will open up lawsuits if they don't hire or if they fire an LGBT employee for ANY reason. Not saying that people don't have a right to get a job, but this is still a concern people have.

Nebraska isn't perfect, but it is good enough for me.

Nebraska is not the second most taxed state in the nation.. The amount of tax per citizen hovers around average, sometimes a bit higher and some times lower.

We are about to be permanently ranked in the taxed less than average with the recent $400 million dollar tax cuts and the focus to cut more in next year's legislature.

My advice to SurfOmaha is to be patient with those other things.. Nebraska is much like 'all' other states where some forms of legislation take a bit more time before passing extra scrutiny and into law. Some states have other important matters that take decades to pass that pass our legislature in a single session and vice versa. I can tell you that the equality and medicaid expansions were very close to becoming law this year...

Patience is a required virtue everywhere you live, friend.

I think people need to be a bit more real about the choices Nebraska's Unicameral made this session. Nebraska is becoming a Bottom 10 state, not just because LGBT issues were voted down, but also rejected were Medicaid Expansion, Minimum Wage increase, and Second parent adoption to name a few. And Nebraska's largest city was recently named the most dangerous city for our nation's African Americans. Nebraska is the THIRD worst state for taxpayers according to WalletHub. The Lincoln Journal Star recently published an article showing Nebraska to have the second highest rich-poor gap in the nation. Republicans in control have done nothing to expand our revenue base to help ease the tax burden on the middle and lower class, but they claim to be about less taxes. What a lie. Nebraska is making itself unlivable. It is time the nation hear more about it than ever. Sure Omaha and Nebraska will make some top list somewhere, but do the criteria even mention the negative? Do the criteria even matter to minorities? NOPE! Of course not, even the progressive elite likes to brush the bad stuff under the rug. The top lists only apply to the straight, white, affluent Christian demographic, everyone else can suck it in this state. Just another reason to leave this state in droves. Let the GOP rule here. Its their kingdom. They poisoned it.

We need to change the minimum wage to a living wage, that way, every time rich corporations and rich landlords raise prices, they contribute to the wage increase!

According the chart in post 6, Nebraska is the third worst state to live in for taxes. I had heard Nebraska was the 2 worst from a local news show.

This alone is enough to not take you seriously at all. Like I said, raising minimum wage has never worked, and it never will. It's the same rhetoric that's been going on since the 1930s! Business owners have to raise prices, because their labor cost is being raised, and labor is the most expensive part of running a business. And because of increased costs caused by increased labor costs, people can't afford retirement because people can't save enough because the price of everything keeps going up.

Well a living wage keeps into account the cost of living, Rayman. Obviously you don't know what a living wage is.

Garthur, the Lincoln Journal Star published an article showing Nebraska to have the SECOND largest rich-poor gap in the nation.

Nebraska is a red state run by Republicans who don't even qualify for the offices they are in, why are Nebraskans paying such high taxes? Thanks to Kay Orr not standing up to corporations, but instead bowing to them, Nebraskans must pay for her legacy, Nebraska: The Ultimate Corporate Welfare state!
