Meadville, north on Ainsworth. You will love the atmosphere.

I like Runza. Sioux Falls had two of them in the late 1990s, but unfortunately did not pan out well up here. I love the Runza sandwiches and the chicken sandwiches. I usally stop at one at least once when I am in Nebraska visiting friend or passing through on my way to Colorado or Kansas.

So do you actually like the Runza... or their hamburgers. Personally, I've never acquired a taste for the former.
They seem to be doing well in Omaha... seems like they're building new locations all over the place. Oh, and my 17 year old son works there as well... have to run a separate hot water load in the washer for his work clothes... maybe that's the case for work attire from any fast food restaurant.

I like the original Runza pockets, chicken strips, and chicken sandwiches from there. I like their fries much better than most other fast food places. I would not buy hamburgers there, because a person can get hamburgers anywhere else and think that the chicken and orginal Runzas are more appealing to me there than the hamburgers. I worked in the food service industry when I was younger and know what you mean with your 17 year-old son.
Very good question, ostargazer.

Favorite Eateries..
I have a few favorites, in Omaha....
The Alpine Inn, great chicken dinners
Surfside....along the Missouri River, awesome catfish..they only have four things on the menu 1) Whole Catfish 2) Catfish filet 3) Full Chicken Dinner and 4) 1/2 Chicken Dinner
Of course I have other favorites that are not off the beaten path, like the Indian Oven in the Old Market and other mom & pop cafe's throughout NE, but I don't remember there names. Usually if I go somewhere while traveling, it's like a one time deal.
Good Luck with your mission and travel safely!

Does anyone like Grandma Max's? It is in the Bosselman's truck stop on the Grand Island exit. I have been there once and found the food to be good. I would not mind to stop again when I head to Colorado or other points west from South Dakota. Next time I am in Nebraska, I will have to try some local eateries. I am sure that many of them, especially the local ones and the steakhouses/family restaurants, have food and are unique in their own right.

I can't remember the name, but there's this EXCELLENT Mexican place in North Platte.
It's next to the "motel alley" off the main drag off the highway, and they're open late!
WONDERFUL enchiladas!!!

Mama sitas is really good mexican in Bennet. OK cafe is good in Hastings. I always liked the Tumbleweed in Broken Bow. There is a terrific Italian place in Cozad that I have heard about. Also heard of a place out in Harrison that serves huge hamburgers.

Runza is okay as far as fast food goes...my personal favorite Nebraska restaurant is Valentino's (the big one in Lincoln). Maybe it's not just a NE thing, but I am originally from Minnesota and live in Wisconsin, and have never seen one other than when I've visited my mom in Milford!!
