Trust me people, there are two great places to eat you will not want to miss.(Just a little off the beaten path) Stockmans Bar and Grill, Amherst, Nebraska. Tubs Pub in Sumner, Nebraska. Owned by two brothers. Best chicken fried steak and best prime rib from any where on the planet. Friday and Sat nights. Go early. They really draw a crowd forom miles around.I am writing this from Bogota, Colombia. Food here sucks ! And yes I was from Amherst, NE.

How far is York from Lincoln in minutes?

approx 40 minutes on the interstate from exit to west Lincoln.
Have many fond memories of Tubs Pub. When my grandparents lived near Miller, we went there all the time. |

I ate a great meal at the North Platte airport one time and the cost was minimal. Try searching out local airports when you are hungry. They sometimes have a great restaurant.

There are a couple books out by a couple from Lincoln called something like "Eating Nebraska" and "Eating Nebraska Again" or something like that. Check them out as they have all the "mom and pop" places throughout the state. Interesting read if nothing else. Latest edition is probably 5-7 years so some of their reviews may include restaurants that are long gone.

For breakfast, there's a great place right on highway 30 in Ogallala (I don't remember the name, but it's in the little "strip mall" that has the old west theme. Get the biscuits and gravy. Also, Dude's in Sidney has fantastic prime rib. I don't know if you get all the way out there, but they're both worth checking out. Also in Sidney (it's been a long time since I've been there) but Buffalo Point, which is relocated to a very nice building right by Cabela's, has very good food.

Try Ole's in Paxton they have great pork tenderloin sandwiches. Just don't let the animals get them.

Here's a few of my favorites statewide:
Omaha: Piccolo Pete's just southeast of downtown on 20th. Great steaks and a very friendly atmosphere. El Aguila just south of downtown Omaha on Vinton..great Mexican food and family-owned. Kearney: Grandpa's Steakhouse. Great salad bar, steaks and old-time steakhouse atmosphere. Ogallala: Front Street Cafe (I think). Great sandwiches and do order the Rocky Mountain Oysters! Lincoln: Tico's. Another great Mexican restaurant. Scottsbluff/Gering: Happiness House, a nice, once again family owned Chinese restaurant. Shari's, a great place for breakfast. Bush's Gaslight: Another old-time steakhouse with great food. |
