My husband and I are thinking of relocating from California to the Scottsbluff area. What are the winters like as far as ice and snow? We currently live in a rural town in Southern California at about the 4500 ft elevation and like a rural town but don't want too severe of winters. Any info will be appreciated.

Default Winter in Nebraska

Well the winters in Nebraska can be very bad and can be very good.

Check out this web site as it can help you with your questions.

http://www.hprcc.unl.edu/nebraska/

Guess if you live in Nebraska you get use to the weather we have. As a native born and raised in Nebraska I don't think that the winters are that bad. It can get down to 30 to 40 degrees below zero for a day or two, but in a few days you could be out playing golf. The winters that you might have in Southern California might be cold and you might have snow, but you will be out on the open prairie where you will have to edure not just the winters, but also our summers as well. Nebraska in into a very bad dry spell right now and it is very dry in Western Nebraska. Other than that Scottsbluff is a nice city to live in it is big enough to provide you with anything you might need, yet give you that small rural town feeling that you are use to having there in the town you live in right now.

So welcome to Nebraska and I will try to answer your questions. I live southeat of Lincoln and am from south western Nebraska around Holdrege. I have been to sothern California while in the military and have lived in Bay area of California, Walnut Creek,as well.

Bob

Default Scottsbluff

Thanks for the great info - I really appreciate it! I lived in Walnut Creek too but that was in the 70's. I will check out the website you referred to and thanks again for replying.

Default Walnut Creek

I also lived there in the 70's, 1971 to 1972. From there we went to Hawaii for three years.

Scottsbluff is a great place to live. The winters can be a bit cold and snowy for about three weeks altogether for the winter season otherwise it is very mild winters. My husband always says that Scottsbluff should use the mild weather year round as a selling point for brining in new people. I have lived other places where you become sick of th snow and cold. Scottsbluff offers just enough to realy enjoy it.
