I would call Scottsbluff a zone 4. You're on the line as the Platte seems to be the divider, but I'd start conservative until you find out exactly what your yard is.
so far as NebraskaLand and Nebraska Life, I love both. NebraskaLand is Game and Parks so focuses more on the nature aspect of NE and is packed full of gorgeous photos. Nebraska Life is going to be more human interest stuff. Also has great photos, but not quite as many.
The 'Bluffs area tends to show up both on a fairly regular basis.

The drought has not improved. The lakes and Platte are still down. We live 8 miles out of Scottsbluff. This is a wonderful area. The valley is very pretty even with the drought. The people are very friendly.

If you are looking for more information about Scottsbluff, the local eco development group has created a site which probably has the most comprehensive information, as well as links to all of the local news entities, housing info, education options, things to do, etc. You may find it helpful, wehavejobs.net - Home. Best of luck!

I was wondering about the weather? Is there extreme snow, heat, humidty. I'm not real familiar with Nebraska other than what I've read about, and of course, firsthand information is always more reliable! My husband and I currently live in Lake Havasu City, AZ and anyone who tells you it doesn't get Hotter Than Hell here, is mistaken! Of course, most of the people who live here come here for the heat - and the lake does help. Allow neither one of us have ever lived in snow country - we came here as San Diego natives in 2004, we don't think we'd have a problem with it as long as it wasn't extreme, extreme! Thanks for any help you can provide!!!

weather
There are temperature extremes, but they are generally short-lived. We have a week or so hovering around 100 in the summer, and a week or so of really cold weather in the winter. There hasn't been much for snow for about ten years. Likewise, the rain has been almost non existent for several years.
A few years ago I met someone who had moved from Minnesota. She wore serious snow gear for that first "big" snow, (an inch) and never brought the stuff out in public again.
On the down side, the city is no longer set up for big storms of any kind so when and if they ever come, we'll be stuck in our homes for days.

Thank you for the input, that's not anything like I was expecting! I can handle the heat - I'm accustomed to that - living in the desert, but of course, we have dry humidity (until the monsoons hit in the summer then the humidity goes way up).
As for the snow, I could handle a couple of inches, but I'd have to learn to live in it too! It would be a nice change, that's for sure!!! Thanks again for your help!

I felt pretty safe growing up in Scottsbluff.

Scottsbuff rates right up in the top cities in the state in my book. And if you are an outdoors type individual, you will find plenty to do in the surrounding area for sure. The people are A #1.
