I am planning to drive I-80 crossing the state at Feb 3rd, which happens to be a Sunday. I remember once a guy told me that all the gas stations at Nebraska are closed Sunday, is that true?
Also, any useful advices to my road trip are greatly appreciated. |

lol, thats hilarious. I've never seen a closed gas station in Nebraska on I-80, other than abandoned ones.
It IS true that highway patrol in Nebraska have nothing better to do than run radar, so make sure you follow the speed limits, especially in construction zones (and double especially the major construction zone running from lincoln to omaha on I-80). ![]() |

Lol, there's more than one place on that stretch of I-80 that seems permanently caught in a time warp: that is, you've been driving for 45 min. or so and looking at the scenery and topography, and even the highway, you'd SWEAR you haven't gone anywhere at all! it looks Exactly the same.
![]() It's a very weird feeling. I watch the odometer to prove to myself that forward progress is being made! ![]() Now don't anyone get upset, I'm not dissin' Nebraska I love it there. But it's just this space-time-scenery phenomena which has been known to happen to more than one person.....I *know* it's not just me....![]() And I agree with the warning about Nebraska's Finest....they will get you if you speed. Last I knew, they would give you about 4 mph over the speed limit, is all. Best use your cruise control! ![]() |

I think i might have the same feeling too, I am very easy to be boring at something never changes.
Wish me good luck, then~ |

No, the stations are open, but watch out for the buffalo and covered wagons
Also sometime stations near the interstate like to charge a higher price, sometimes it is worth it to drive into town aways, especially if the town is right on the interstate. To me the best stops for gas, food are Sidney, Ogalalla, North Platte, Lexington, Kearney, York, Lincoln and Omaha. Kimball, Gothenburg, Cozad, Grand Island/Hastings, Aurora and Seward are also good stops, but either don't have as many options or you have to drive aways off the interstate. For road conditions you can go online or call 511 when in the state. Expect road construction between Omaha and Lincoln and in Lincoln as they are widening the interstate. |

Maybe I have a guardian angel, and I don't speed much, but I have rarely even seen a police car on I-80. I have rarely seen anyone stopped for speeding. I have driven that road a lot.

You must have a guardian angel, cuz i have been stopped 3 times in a 6 month span. Of course, i still drive like i live in Vegas, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Gas stations in Nebraska closed on Sundays back during the energy crisis in 1974, but that hasn't been the case for more than 30 years now. Maybe your friend was caught in the time warp of I-80. I used to drive Omaha to Denver two or three times a year, and I always drove it at night. There were nights on the far side of Grand Island when I swore the radio was picking up stations from 1954.
