Agri-tourism might be looking into, up in Thedford would be looking into the life of a rancher and you would get your horse riding in too. Agri-tourism is kinda a new phenomenon, but would be a great way to learn the rural and agriculture way of life.

No offense, tpabes, but a sailor on vacation is thinking about one thing, and it sure ain't horses or corn! (unless he's kinky)

Well, personnal opinion, but I never though that tourism was the best way to discover anything else than lanscapes. And furthermore I would feel uneasy starring whith other tourists at guys who are working...
Living in the same place long enough to know peoples, learning by listening and giving a hand when I can looks much better to me (But it requires to have time free which is not allowed to everbybody)

ColeSD, I never said that riding would be the first thing I would think about
But I spend too much time in large towns and green is definitely one of my priorities.

Edit: that could be misunderstood... Never mind (i'm far from being a native english speaker)

T'en fais pas! You should be fine here. You might here some negative things about Nebraska, but I would consider where you hear them from, because some people outside of Nebraska might make it sound like a bad place because they don't know what it's really like. Even in the big cities, Nebraska is more affordable than a lot of other states in the U.S.
Bonne Chance!
