The sky in NE simply amazes me. I have whole folders of sky pictures; sunrises, sunsets, clouds, storms, rain, snow... everything. The different levels of humidity and temperature, the clouds pushed about by the wind, puffed and plumped and then scattered about, the reflections off of the water and the shadows on the hills; they all make for the most amazing colors and shapes and lighting. The girls at work laugh at me constantly - I'll come in in the morning saying "Did you SEE that SKY this morning! The ribbons of purple and red and gold? The way the moon was just hanging over the hills?" They told me they live here and see it every morning, and it isn't remarkable to them at all... but now occasionally they'll stop and see what I'm seeing, too!

I can't claim any kudos - I am merely the recorder, not the Architect. Just happy to be in a place where I can love it and share it!
Does the sky have a distinctive and different appearance than it would in SC?

Not just in SC, but in the Southeast in general, particularly along the coast. There are occasional glorious sunsets, but for the most part, the pervasive humidity acts as sort of a glaze over the sky, which dulls the hues and diffuses the sunlight, as well as makes the "sky" seem closer. The layering and shaping of the clouds is distinctly less observeable, unless you are standing on the beach, where the upper level wind effects are more prevalent and visible. The colors of the clouds are less intense; here, a grey sky is many shades of grey, while there, it is only three or four pronounced colors. Sometimes the sky there, even on a 'clear and sunny' summer day, has a distinctly faded, greenish hue. As you can imagine, the faded colors are not reflected as well, even in clear water.

The "freshwaters" there are colored and clouded by the clay through which they run; one river may have a deep dark grey tint, another a yellowed tint, still another a reddish tint. They rarely reflect anything, even the trees that hang over them, with any clarity, merely shapes and shadows.

My friends back east marvel at the brilliant colors in the pictures I send them, of the clouds and skies. Even the rainbows' colors here are more delineated!

Alas, therewego, I have no pics of any city... I moved here to get away from cities! I do love architecture, and in my travels took pictures of the unusual from Seattle thru Salt Lake to Washington, DC - but North Platte (and Rapid City in SD) is the closest I come to any 'city' here... and those very rarely. There are many in this thread, however, and may talented photographers who have taken them!

I'm from Oklahoma, grew up in Southern California, but no place has ever felt as much like home to me except Nebraska. I've been here 11 years and I will never leave. Even though it gets colder than a witch's ....well you know.

SCGranny, I also love the sky in Nebraska. The climate we have that makes for such variation in the weather makes for such variations in the way the sky reflects and filters light!

I took a photo up the hill from my apartment in Lavista. Its not the landscape that makes the photo great, its totally the sky.
