hello All,

We are family of 3 with less than 1 year old child.
Wife taking break but may later on work likely in university setting. I work in North west part of lincoln.
We are Asian(just in case it matters)
Budget looking around $170000.
Nice to have day care around it just in case if needed at some point
Looking for 3 bedroom plus 2 attached garage and 1.75 bathroom at least.
Explored few areas and it appears only candidate seems like Sheridian area( although Elementary school is only advantage). I also looked around kahoa elementary but house selection for what it costs didn't feel right.
Another area which actually ticks all elementary, middle and high is south east of holmes lake around maxey elementary schools.
Do you think these should be areas to focus considering environment, safety, neighborhoods and access to usual places. any more ideas/tips.
Focus is more towards family needs and really not into any extra curricular activities.

Does Zillow seems like place to cover all listings.
Should we focus only elementary as of now or try to shoot for elementary and middle at least.

Thank you

If you work in the North West part of the city have you looked at the Highlands?

Hello jkiss,

I looked at highlands, school there is rated 7 and no good middle or high schools. Not sure what city's plan is for that area.
These are my major concern for area otherwise would have been fine.
I want to target an area where at least elementary and middle are good or something proposed for those areas.

Thanks

I would be more than happy to provide you a ton of resources on neighborhoods and schools in Lincoln and help you narrow down your search.

Zillow can be useful, but with houses moving off the market in Lincoln at the speed they are right now, it can be difficult to make sure you are getting up-to-date info there.

Your best bet would be creating a customized search through the MLS so you receive emails with available homes meeting your criteria as soon as they hit the market. A realtor (like me) could help you with that and would also have access to listings that are about to hit the market but haven't yet - giving you a major advantage.

There's no commitment or pressure involved. Email me and I can point you in the direction of setting up your own search (or do it for you) www.evaprettyman.homerealestate.com, give you links to lots of neighborhood info and answer any questions you might have. eva.prettyman@homerealestate.com

You might want to check out the HIGHLANDS area in NW Lincoln. A quick commute to downtown and mostly newer homes. Not as many BIG TREES as the Sheridan Area but $170K should get you a nice home with what you want. ALL Lincoln schools in the suburban areas are top notch. And even the BAD ones in the near South/North areas are decent. Good luck.

Online school scoring systems are, IMO, a bit deceptive as they tend to be heavily biased towards reporting only testing results. To really get a feel for how productive a school may be, you would need to visit and talk with the admin. What is the office staff like, how engaged is the Principal, what is the tenure of the staff, how student centric is the overall feel of things, how many scholorships are they receiving and of what type. Things like that are pretty significant to the overall success of a student than simple test score.
