The difference is the Canadians don’t stay and take jobs for less than min. wage, no matter what state they settle in.

If the Americans and others that live in the US would not purchase drugs, then guess what? no drug problem. So weather or not, drugs, gangs, etc. are not just caused by Mexicans, they are caused by "humans" in general.
No kidding?? but don't you think we should control the illegals? I or no one else ever said gangs, drugs, etc were caused only by Mexicans, only an idiot would think that.

The simple solution IMHO is to enforce our laws. If America holds no jobs or social benefits for someone who criminally enters the country, why would people come or stay? We can fine and penalize businesses who can't comply with employment laws. We can build a better system to flag if a SS # is being used more than one time to catch those stealing identies. I'm truly sorry other countries don't have the opportunity ours does but on that same note I'd like ours to not be brought down to the same level of despair and degradation. I don't want to encourage low paying jobs, substandard housing, crime.

Default We used to hate our own

Over half the nation is now at least part Irish, or German. They also just showed up at our doors. The Irish had a very ruff time. Two wars didn't help the saurkraut crowd. Put your anger at Wall Street and endless wars. During WW2 we begged the Mexicans to help fill in.. No jobs, and they will not come. 8 yrs of Bush, may have us running for the border, for food and warmth.

Get real!!! This is not the turn of the 20th century and most of our families came here legally, had sponsors and did not, I repeat, did not expect to get anything free from the government. As for us running for the border, do you have any idea what Mexico does to people entering illegally...???

Bush and Wall street have noting to do with illegals coming into our country..You can blame them for a lot, but not this..

I guess you think it is ok to call Germans "the sourkraut crowd" but it isn't ok for some of us to oppose people entering our country illegally. Nice shot!!!

I was considering moving to Omaha about 2 months ago with my family. After spending a week looking for a place, one thing was abundantly clear...Omaha has changed!

I didn't want to believe it at first, but my friends were right about the fast slide downhill due to illegals in Omaha. I saw 'tagging' from the heart of downtown all the way out on the west side to 187th st.

South High, where one of my daughters was to enroll, had mandatory classes taught in English and Spanish to placate those teens who couldn't/wouldn't speak english. I was there to meet with the principal and was not happy with the experience...I'll leave it at that.

It's obvious to any casual observer, immigration is fast turning this town into a place I don't want to live.....and I'm coming from Florida!

As long as your local officials tiptoe around this issue, the illegals will continue to arrive in droves and suck every penny from system. I give Omaha 12-18 months before it looks for a major bailout to support poor illrgal citizens....just like California, eh?

We need to stop illegal immigration NOW, that means prison for employers that hire illegals, and deportations by the hundreds or thousands per day. Anyone willing to hold a gun for $6 an hour should be hired to gaurd the border with orders to shoot anyone that touches the fence. I don't care if I have to pay more for meat at the store, as long as Americans are doing that work for a living wage instead of illegals. As for spanish in our schools, if a kid shows up for school and doesn't want to speak or learn in english, then expell that student for the year and let them come back and try again the next year.

When we get things straightened out and we need more workers to fill jobs no one will do......lets clear out the welfare roles and force them to relocate and do those jobs. We may still have to give them assistance to get them up to a living wage especially if they have lots of kids, but it's better than the generational dependence we have now. If they show up for work with an attitude, cut off all assistance to them and the attitude problem will clear up. If we have to convert a prison into a meat packing plant, thats fine too. And if we still need more workers after having done all of that, then we should take guest workers from many different countries all over the world. In such a way that no one country or language is prefered in the immigration process. That way it's not so easy for them to team up and run their national flag up the pole at the post office. Keeps the gangs split up better that way too.

Lots of good posts in this thread, reps given for you in here and other threads.

Oh, and want to add something important here. Its about time to get samples of everyones DNA in the database to put the brakes on crime and in particular, deadbeat dads. "I don't know who the daddy of my baby is" should no longer be accepted by the state. These fathers should be identified and forced to pay child support. If they won't pay, lock them up in a meat packing plant.
