Just thought I would stop by this forum to see what people are saying about the great state of Nebraska. I grew up in western Nebraska, then went to school at UNK and UNO. My husband is in the military, so I have lived in many places since in the US. However, no place compares with Nebraska's simple beauty and home like feel. I miss it.

Nebraska Fan Here!
I too grew up and spent 20 years in Western Nebraska. We are also military so as you know, moving around comes along with that but Nebraska will always be my home. I remember growing up friends would say how they could not wait to get out but i think our views changed as we got older. The more time I spend away, the more I miss it.

I've had several career opportunities to move away from Nebraska, but I bypassed each one to stay here. A great state and a great sense of community (if you take the time to care and be involved).

LOL I'm glad somebody loves it here. I've lived in Lincoln now for ten years, and am really finding it dull, I guess if we had a major city in the area (and no, Omaha is not big enough to be considered "major") it would be better.

Curious... what would that missing major city give you that would make you no longer find it dull?

I lived in Nebraska until I was 23. I did think it could be dull at times, however that was until I moved away and realized the grass was not greener on the other side. Nebraska has a slower pace to it, but I miss that pace.

I seem to always find my way back also. Tried a couple of those mountain states in my time but always come home.

I have had the pleasure of living in a few of the cities and towns across our state. I think I have visited just about every nick and granny of the state also.

Always liked what I saw and pretty much who I meant in my travels.

Nebraska, a good place to lay your head down at night for sure.

I've lived in Lincoln all my 22 years, andcould never picture moving away. There's something about Nebraska that just makes it feel... well like home. Maybe b/c alot of people don't see Nebraska that way so it's staying less populated? I don't know, but I like it.
When I was growing up I hated living here in Lincoln. I thought it was so boring. But now, it's wonderful and I can't wait to raise my kids here. The only problem I seem to be having is do I raise my family in Lincoln or in a small town outside of Lincoln? Haha.. I'll figure it out sooner or later.

It's mostly the fact that bigger cities have so much more to offer than what any town in Nebraska does- more types of employment options, much more to do for entertainment, more types of places to eat, more diversity, just much more going on. I know a lot of people who have left here to go to bigger cities and they haven't regretted it for one minute- it's all about what the individual is looking for, of course there are plenty of people here who are satisfied with what we have, and that's cool, too.

Interesting perspective... I've always thought (Omaha perspective) that we have tons of employment options, very diverse mix of employers/industries represented, relatively low unemployment rate, great entertainment options from local indie art (some world known), great music events (Qwest center being like in the top 15 in the world for ticket sales), fantastic culture at the Holland Center, I've been to two Broadway shows this year brought to the Orpeum, many local restraunts (going to try Cuban tonite)...

Not discounting at all what you are saying, I just think people discount what the area does have some times...

Thanks for replying!
