Thinking about moving to Alda?
Have a great career opportunity in Alda, limited info on Alda anywhere on the net. Why would you want to live in Alda, why not? Pros and Cons? Are there decent places to rent? Or does Alda blend with Grand Island? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Alda is just a couple miles west of the edge of Grand Island along Hwy 30. You will probably have much better luck finding a rental in Grand Island and making the short commute to Alda, but you can sure try finding a rental. Check out the Grand Island Independent.

Alda is a really small town, but you may hear part of it refered to as Argo. This is the somewhat newer area on the southside of the train tracks. Argo is the name of the development with street names such as Saturn. If you are going to live in Alda, live in this area, I would not live north of the tracks, it just seems a little run down to me.
My personal opinion is to live in the western part of G.I., which has several nice areas and make the short commute to Alda. Do you have kids? I believe Alda is part of Wood Rivers school system and not Grand Island's, but don't quote me on that. What I'm saying is that if you have kids they might be going 8 miles west to school. If you are in the Grand Island, I have heard many people say go for Northwest Public over Grand Island Public. Good luck and any more questions, just ask.

Thank you for the reply.
No kids, no wife. How's the nightlife?
Climate? Cold is no problem as long as the wind isn't blowing. Does GI/Alda area have a lot of wind in the winter?

Nightlife, well read the thread on snipe hunting I don't know if Alda has a bar or night and in Grand Island nightlife mainly consists of bar hopping and eating out, sans the occassional concert or event at the arena in G.I. or Kearney. That said if you get a good group of friends you won't be bored, you find things to do while hanging out. Otherwise, you will have to drive to Lincoln or Omaha for better nightlife.
Climate, a little bit of everything but hurricanes. Summers are hot, winters are cold and sorry we do have quite a few cold windy days. The wind does blow here. It is not an everyday occurence, but it does happen. We get severe weather and tornadoes. That said we have plenty of beautiful weather too

Apartment wise, There are new ones that went up last year, large complex, they are right off of 281 on Husker Hwy. Alda is about 5 minutes from there.

Yes those are called the Riverbend Apartments. The are income based, so if you make too much, you do have to pay more , but they are very nice units.
