Default Alma-Beaver City-Oxford area

We now live in south central Wisconsin and are looking to relocate to a somewhat drier climate due to our arthritis. In my case the dew point temp seems to be more of a pain indicator then humidity.

Where we now live, the summer time dew points seldom get below 60f, we know from living elsewhere that the around 50f dew points make us start feeling better. So my question is can someone give us an idea of the summer time day dew points in this area?

Thanks in advance for any and all info.

Default Alma-Beaver City-Oxford area

What are you looking for in a town?

I have lived each of these small towns in Nebraska.

I went to school in Oxford, was born in Oxford. Worked as a Police Officer in Alma. Was Chief Deputy of Furnas County Sheriff's Department and Chief of Police living in Beaver City. Right now I work for the United Nations as an International Police Officer in Kosovo. You ask me and I will give you the best answer that I can for you.

Some things about the area first. Beaver City, Orleans, and Oxford all got together an formed one school district. There are only elementry grades now in these three towns. Beaver City and Orleans are losing people and these schools have smaller numbers of students every year. Oxford does not have any major industry since the cheese factory burned down several years ago.

Shopping in these three towns are limited and you will have to drive about half an hour to Holdrege to find a good shopping market. The closest Wal-Mart is in Kearney which is about 70 miles away.

Alma is on the west end of what was once a lake. Due to the lack of rain water and irriagation from the Republican River this lake is about 25 feet below normal now. Alma also has limited shopping, but it is better than Oxford, Beaver City and Orleans. They do have a school right in the center of town which is a K-12 class school. The major souce of income for this area is farming and for Alma the summer months brings boaters and campers, but not like it did in the 80's and mid 90's when the lake had water backed up to Alma.

The winters are not as bad as you have in Wisconsin in the winter time, but it can become very bad in a hurry. Our heat and humidity can be very bad in the summer. You can go to this web site to check out the weather in Nebraska http://www.hprcc.unl.edu/nebraska/ which has many different photographs and other information about the weather in Nebraska.

You can contact me at any time using my e-mail address if you like.

Good luck,

I can say that all of Nebraska is pretty humid. The air gets better as you go further west. We live in Omaha (terribly humid), but when we go on vacation to places like Chadron in the panhandle. We are amazed on how comfortable it is to be out in the summer, compared to Eastern Nebraska.
