Well, Sidney is going to be an extreme change from Orange County and Las Vegas. You are going to have to drive to Denver (approx 3 hrs) to get your amenities and big city life that you are leaving behind. Sidney, was around 5,000 to 6,000 last census, I believe, and has probably grown because of Cabela's. It does have a Wal-mart, other grocery stores and mainly fast food restaurants with a few mom and pop sit down restaurants. Schools should be good and try looking in the newspapers for rentals:

Good luck and any more questions, just ask.

I'm in the same 'predicament' only I'm coming to Sidney from Chicago and Virginia Beach, VA. for Cabela's. When you say amenities, what do you mean? Grocery stores? 3 hours to Denver just to hit the grocery store?

I do have family in Denver, so it wouldn't be a totally lost trip, but i'd rather do my shopping, drug store, dry cleaners, gas station and go to the liquor store (it's not a 'dry' town is it?) in town.

Oh no, there are grocery stores in Sidney and I don't believe its a dry town. You can get all the basics you need in Sidney. By amenities I meant major shopping (mega malls etc..) and entertainment (pro sports, major arts and concerts) that you would only find in the bigger cities.

Default moving to Sidney

Thanks for that explanation. long talk with my husband last night and we decided that an upward career move at Cabela's would be a lot better than the lateral one he's looking at.

Another great concern is health care there. I have need to see specialists on a quasi-regular basis. I see they come to the hospital once or twice a week on a sparing basis.

I'm used to having hundreds oof them to pick from and all within 10 miles. I don't feel like a 3 hour drive to Denver is what I want to do, or even a 1 hour drive to Cheyenne or 1 1/2 hour to Scottsbluff. Any thoughts?

Unfortunetly that is one of the downsides of living in a smaller town, at least they do come into town a couple times a week. Most people just make a trip out of it when they have to travel for healthcare. Do some shopping, eat out at a new restaurant, etc. One thing you will find in western Nebraska, is that its not uncommon to drive distances for things. With high gas prices that is a concern, but people just combine trips rather than making several.
