I went to college with a girl that was just a baby when the big Grand Island storms hit. She had an awesome book with some of the neatest storm cloud pictures in it. I can't recall the name, but I still can't get the image of the clouds from my mind. It is probably a local book.

I always make my boys watch NIGHT OF THE TWISTERS and they don't believe me when I tell them that the book was actually based on a real night in Nebraska when I was a baby! LOL

Grand Island escaped damage pretty much, Kearney got hit hard and damage on the interstate near Aurora as of now. Watch out in the east, I was luckily as it went about 10 miles north of me. Nasty, nasty black skies.

Default Grand Island Tornados

I was there with my parents before and after our home and neighborhood was tore up.
Lots of activity durind the day time, I saw two storm fronts colide over head. While watching this event a strong microburst knocked me flat on the ground, I went in doors after that.
It was around 9:30pm when we saw the first tornado, while on watch I spoted a funnel near our home. we had 15 seconds to get to the basement when it hit. It tore us up for 15 minutes before moving on.
Rain hail and more tornados were in the area for 3 hours before the storm left. I never want to go thru that ever again!
