Here is one web site that can help you learn about Fairbury.

http://jefferson.unl.edu/fairbury.htm

There is a small Wal-Mart on Nebraska Hwy 15 on the north side of the town. You are about forty miles from a Super Wal-Mart in Beatrice. The business district is very good in shopping in the downtown part of Fairbury considering that it is a small town. You will find the majority of the people there friendly and willing to welcome you to Fairbury.

I live in a small town north and east of Beatrice and have been in Fairbury many times. I will try to help you out as best as I can.

They have a bi-weekly newspaper that is covers Fairbury, but it is not currently a on-line newspaper so I can not help you out concerning rentals. You might contact a local realtor to see about this. You might also check out the Beatrice Daily Sun which is on line and see if they have any posting concerning rentals.

Have you ever lived in Nebraska before?

Thankyou, Kosnebear! No I haven't lived in Nebraska, but did visit Omaha about 20 yrs ago. I presently live in southeastern Kansas, but ready to make a new start, seemed like that area of Nebraska would suit us, planning to move in March.

Well then welcome to Nebraska. I am sure that you will like Fairbury. They have a swimming pool for the kids. A golf course on the south side of town if you play golf. Hunting is good for deer and birds of all kinds. Not as good as out in the southwestern part of Nebraska. Fishing is good in local ponds. Branched Oak lake is north of Fairbury about 60 miles away. There you can go camping and they have a nice beach area where you can go swimming as well.

I was born and raised in Nebraska and have been all over the state so I can answer many of your questions. Nebraska is a state that has been able to keep it self secret. Everyone that I work with in the United Nations from the United States say that there nothing in Nebraska and that Nebraska is flat. Well me put the Interstate on the flat part for those who do not want to take the time to see Nebraska. We have a bunch of things to see and do. All you have to do is go do them. I know that you will find Nebraska very different from southeastern Kansas and I hope that you will feel at home in Fairbury.

You might want to take a look at Jensen Nebraska which is between Fairbury and Beatrice. If you go west toward Hebron you are going away from all the major shopping and retail areas so if you look else where for a new home go east or north not west. Good jobs are harder to find out west unless you want to settle around some of the larger towns like McCook, North Platte, Kearney, Hastings, Scottsbluff. Fairbury is a good choice right size to have things that you would need right away. Close to major shopping areas. Good job opportuinties. Several different churches to choose from. Close to a college in Beatrice and Milford. Good schools. Plus very friendly people who will get to know you as a neighbor and make you feel like a part of the town right away.
