I guess what bugs me the most about city-goin-to-country folk is that they always seem to feel that the country folk should appreciate their largesse; their wonderful commitment to move to a small community to help them out and see that they grow properly. That attitude will get you despised anywhere.
Know what I want? I want to live in a place where I know my neighbors. Where I don't feel like they have their hands out looking for what I might have to give them. I'm tired of the whole 'entitlement' attitude - everything from "You OWE me a house, food for me and my kids, and a job, simply because I exist" to "You OWE me respect and a Starbucks and a Red Lobster and a shopping mall, simply because I chose to come here". Places are what they are, and why should they change to accommodate newcomers? Especially newcomers who swear that they are coming there for the 'better life', 'slower way of living', 'beautiful countryside' - and then demand more and more shopping, more and more fast food joints, more and more big box stores, and more and more roads, lower-income service workers, and more and more infrastructure to get to and to enjoy all of that! Then five years later they start whining about how all of the development has destroyed their beautiful chosen spot. Well, guess what? If You hadn't moved there and insisted on all that development to suit your ideal of the perfect lifestyle, none of it would have changed! That's what started happening around US, so a group of us got together and made it happen the right way - because we couldn't stop those people from moving, but we could durn sure make sure they paid for it... and kept it away from us, for as long as we could. Maybe some people LIKE the country lifestyle, and don't mind the smell of horse or cow poop. Maybe some people don't lock their doors because they take the time to get to know everyone around them. And maybe, just maybe, when you move to a new place you shouldn't look for cool people just like you - maybe you should open yourself to people who are different from you and realize that they might actually have chosen to be that way through hard experiences. I know one thing - wherever we finally move to, I'll keep my powder dry to shoot any developer who stops his car, gets out, looks around, and says, "What a GREAT place! It's so quiet! The air is so clean! It needs a McDonalds, though..." |

How are we proving your point? Because we dislike people trashing the entire state of Nebraska for no apparent reason. You didn't just bring up points, you go on and just trash the people of Nebraska and are pretty petty about. You were on another thread tearing people down for rooting for the Huskers when "unemployment is rampant" in Nebraska. Well, you're full of it. The Nebraska unemployment rate is one of the lowest in the nation. I'm calling it how i see it...you're a bitter person and just want to go off on a "I hate Nebraska rant."
And FYI, I live in Omaha, but I still think your antics are petty. I quote, People in Nebraska are very polite. They're not friendly. You're right it is about opinion. But you get on here and project your opinion as fact and get upset when people don't agree with that opinion. Furthermore, it is my opinion that your opinion is completely off base. You know maybe if you wouldn't project such narcissistic superiority people might be a little more accepting of you. As for your husband being a med student...what the heck does that matter?? I have a doctorate...does that mean people should be unconditionally accepting of me?? |

Amy,
It says where I am from in every post I submit...just so you know. Anyway, you have to be the hardest person I have ever met to get along with if you can only connect with 2 peoplein the state of Nebraska. I don't get your post. |

EXCUSE me, but the question at the beginning of the thread was "What is the worst town in Nebraska?"
I state my opinion, which by the way, was coming from a very heartfelt place, and then I get attacked by people. My posts weren't read completely, at least by the ones "attacking" me. I said I hated Cedar County. If you read MY previous posts, you'll see I lived in Omaha in the past, and don't have a problem with that area. I'm "dropping" it at this point. But a question shouldn't be asked if nobody wants it answered. Like everyone else I write from PERSONAL experience, and didn't conduct a scientific survey to find the answer. |

Hey, a question to the Admins....... not to change the subject. I noticed that this thread has 30,000+ views.. is that some kind of record?

And again...my opinion is that you're opinion is wrong.
