If you have about a week I have lots more things I'd like to get off my mind . Womans right to vote ? Yea baby ,you've really come a long way ! Too bad we ran off all the men and now we have to leave our young for work and raise them in single familys. I always thought women should have the right to vote ,like at their social meetings and all . We use to rule the world from the bedrooms and the kitchens ,raise world leaders ,[ hand that rocks the cradle rules the world ] , until we got greedy .
I have to take exception about the women voting comment.

My Grandma was probably the PROUDEST NE resident when she first got to vote as a 30 yr old wife who was previously "represented" by her husband's vote. LOL, somehow I get the idea that they didn't always agree politically! I understand my grandpa was a farmer who ended up being a fairly well known public figure in his day, and she was his asst manager every step of the way as well as mother to five children.

The right to vote is a very strong part of my family's tapestry and I was taught to never undervalue the rights and resposibilities our ancestors fought for themselves and generations to come.

Do I think parents today have less quality time with kids? Yes, yes and yes. Am I glad I grew up in the generation where kids can and did play out in the street more or less without fear? Yes, yes and yes.

I don't know what the solution is to have healthy close families who aren't living in a cardboard box. But I can tell you, kids who are raised by a nanny often prefer grandma's house, with a swingset instead of the mega mansion.

How can a "senior engineer" not find an engineering job or even make enough money to move out?

Wow, are there some pirates in the family tree? If I met any of them, they were elderly and it was many years later. Darn, I should have hung out with the grownups instead of the kids.

Don't want to hijack this thread, but my grandmothers, too, both voted after women got the right to vote. Both were 'simple' women who did not graduate from high school. Women were glad to vote in my family anyway.

This statement totally proves the complaint. I moved to West Texas 25 years ago and decided to make it permanent. Why? Cause the people here are the friendliest I have ever been around anywhere, so far. I went back to the Sandhills for a reunion after being in WT for 3 years and couldn't believe the rudeness in general of Nebraska folks. I had never noticed it until then but I see it every single time I go back each year. I have no idea why that is but sure would like to see it disappear as I would love to retire back to Neb. but find it hard to do so if everyone runs around with a chip.

Excellent find....
And I have been here in Cherry County since last Wednesday... and it is everything I expected, and more. The folks are really friendly, we chat all the time about any and everything, from the weather to cattle to calving (pretty important right now) and horses and children and... This Sunday some new friends invited me and my daughter to the movies. It is great here. the people are so honest and open and friendly - and we have even cut up quite a bit and shared some really good times already.

SCGranny, I am so Happy For You that you have found it great in Valentine! Back in my days there, I spent my evenings at St. Christopher's Inn sharking the big city hunters out of their money on the pool tables along with Fud Ferris, who owned the place. LOL, I made more money on a Friday night there that I would the whole week working for a local dealership! Those really were the days! No restrictions on floating the river either then. Still had longhorns at the Fort. Catching Northern Pike from the Mill Pond was a daily ritual!

As another poster said earlier, do stay away from that bar on the Corner though LOL. I would love to meet ya!

In the high school, if you have teenagers, its pretty easy to get along with everyone but the rich kids and the hardcore farmers. The gossip is really bad, you can committ a crime and if nobody sees, you'd get away with it than laugh at all the stories you will here the next day.

A couple of good towns in nebraska are Stanton and Howells. I have lived in all towns im describing. Stanton is laid back, to them selves but still nice folks. Howells everyone is nice and thats no lie, everyone will talk to you and help you out, gossip is bad but its small town life and youll get used to it and start spreding stuff too. The town is into wrestling bad, they close everything for the wrestling tournament.

I lived in Lincoln for 11 years, big city ego in a small town, crime not that bad and traffic can be bad at times especially after a football game, STAY OUT OF DOWNTOWN after the football game, traffic can get really bad

You are kidding right????

Wisner is an awesome town to live in. I was an outsider that moved in and that community and area TOTALLY took me in and accepted me very very well! I loved the 5-6 years I lived there. They are the nicest people n NE Nebraska, very caring people and I would move back in a heart beat provided a good opportunity came up

Yeah, it was a little smelly, but I tell you what, It was by far the most comfortable community I've ever lived, large or small!

Excellent people live in the Wisner area!

I still have great friends up there...some 14 years after moving away because I thought I "had to get married" Those people don't forget you!!!

I'd raise a family in Wisner before I would in 99% of the other towns in Nebraska!

and no I wasn't in the cattle industry, or a teacher, nor did I have money. Everyone from the as you say "people with money" to the "other group" treated me very well and with great respect.

sorry I got on a little rant, but that community was wonderful...IS wonderful...can't beleive it even ended up on this list!

I have changed my mind, I used to think that Laurel,NE was the worst town in Nebraska.

I now know that Omaha, NE is the worst town in Nebraska.

I am fed up with the everyday murders. The murder rate has always been bad in Omaha, but lately it has gotten totally out of control.

Why can't we get this under control?

I am about ready to move out, yes you are right you can't run from crime.
I can go where there is very low crime or where it's non existent
