Default Lincoln Future

What do you predict for Lincoln in the near future? I noticed a lot of construction going on everywhere,
What's going on?
More Jobs?
New Fun Places?

Default ..

Lincoln has hit a plateu for a little while, but is still growing at a much above average rate. The Lincoln MSA is about to hit 300,000 people and is extremely close to Omaha geographically, and so if something isn't available in lincoln all you have to do is take a 30 minute drive to omaha and it will be there..

As it continues to grow, more opportunities will open up.

I think that Lincoln will continue to grow due to it being not too far from Omaha, having a large university, having the state government there, and having I-80 with having a four-lane road linking it with I-29 near Nebraska City.

I have heard from a college friend, who went to grad schools and currently lives in Lincoln, along with a former coworker who is moving to Lincoln about the good things in Lincoln. I have heard that it is a clean, easy-to-get around city.

I think that Lincoln could benefit even more if it teams up with Omaha on matters such as economic development, metro planning (roads, zoning, etc.), and in a number of other areas. University of Nebraska can help Omaha and Omaha can help Lincoln.

Lincoln is becoming a very expensive place to live. New high paying jobs are not being created fast enough to keep up with the increased cost of living. We have had a lot of high dollar homes built here in the past fifteen or twenty years because folks who had benefited from the sale of homes on the coasts relocated here and discovered that they could live in a mansion (5,000 sq/ft or more) with the equity they received from their sale of East/West coast homes. Now a lot of those folks are looking at retirement or wanting to make another move and they are having a difficult time selling those McMansions.

There may be some hope with the plans that the University of Nebraska has for the new technology park that will be built on the old State Fair grounds. However that is going to take ten years or more to be up and running. A lot of baby boomers will be leaving Lincoln for areas in rural Nebraska where they have roots. I am going to be one of them LOL.
