I miss Runza's. Haven't had a runza since I moved to AZ. Are they still in business back there?

Yes thank you everyone in Wyoming looks at me like I'm from another planet when I say we need a Runza here. When we go home that's about all I eat! Scotcharoos are my other favorite they're a midwestern treat too.

I'm not from Nebraska, but I've been there a number of times. I remember seeing Runza places there, but never tried one. What is a runza, exactly? Is it like some kind of a meal in a pocket crust?

Since Nebraska is in beef country, I'd have to say it's steak and prime rib. I have not had any better outside of Nebraska!

Runza's are very yummy. The basic is ground beef wrapped in Dough and baked. You can get them with cheese or other things. I love Runza's fries though! They also have excellent Onion Rings...double hand battered.

They're potato bacon soup is to die for!! People call Runza's beer rocks or cabbage rolls sometimes, there is cabbage and onion and spices with the beef. I worked there in highschool and we never got tired of the food. Oh yeah you're right about the beef too. There is nothing like corn fed beef and I'm not talking about graining them out for a few weeks before you send them off that's just a waist of money.

Oh, boy, now you're making me hungry! The next time I visit Omaha, I definitely have to try a runza, at least once.

You might just want to make your own, not too tough... I am from a town ~ 10 mi SE of Lincoln, and my mom and grandma's made them by the freezer full in the 50's & 60's. They were sold for community fund raisers. They were similar to the Runza chain joint, but a much more digestible texture, and plenty big (~6" round x 3" thick) We still make them and the kids love 'em. I'm sure there are plenty of recipes on-line. Some call them Cabbage Burgers or rolls, but, just ground beef and cabbage with a dough shell. We usually use a "pizza dough" recipe, and roll out ~ 1/4" thick, add filling and wrap it up and bake it. yum...

but... since it is Saturday night, I'm hankering for some Prime Rib from the "Branched Oak" in Malcolm.

I wish there was some good food here...so far as I can tell it's pretty bland and boring.
