Beatrice and surrounding towns
I was looking for anyone that lives or knows the area around Beatrice.
We are seriously looking at a relocation to that area. We have a son that will be going into the 5th grade, so one of our main concerns would be the school systems.
Which towns would offer the best education and sports.
We currently live in a town that has a pop of about 1000, so we want to keep it small.
So far the towns of Wymore and Fairbury look pretty nice, but would love to know from people that live there or around there.
From reading the threads so far, I'm not to concerned with the "friendly" part of Nebraska, that sounds like a given.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Well honestly I had a friend go through Beatrice schools and he had no complaints, and Beatrice has a very good sports programs. So if your willing to live in a little bigger town, Beatrice would be a great choice.
Wymore has a consolidated school system with several smaller towns called Southern. Looking at the website it looks like the elementary is in Blue Springs and Jr./Sr. high is in Wymore.
Fairbury is a little bigger town, it does have a wal-mart. I love there nickname, The Jeffs.

thanks for the response. The hubby and I are both from small towns...I graduated with 27 and hubby had 9, yes, you saw that right 9!
Are the schools that are consolidated with Wymore, small farming towns?
I'm thinking we need to drive up there and check it out! Little man will be happy if we can find a motel with a pool!
With school starting around the 14th of August, guess we need to get in gear.

Yes all the schools that make up Southern Public are small farming towns, they are:
Wymore, Blue Springs, Holmesville, Barneston, and Liberty.

There are a lot of things I like about this city and rural Nebraska, but... well, my experience with Beatrice recently has been different. I'm new to the area, but you know, when you get burned too many times in a short period of time, it effects your perception. For instance, I was just out mowing, and a guy let his dog ***** on my neighbor's driveway and sidewalk right in front of me. I asked him if he needed a bag and said that his dog didn't do anything. He even asked if it was my yard, and then walked off like he didn't care. Come on man! Then last night, my wife and were riding our bikes, and to get onto the bike trail we had to drive on the main road (6th St/Rt. 77) briefly. So, a guy in his truck drove by and shouted out his window "Ride on a sidewalk!" He obviously doesn't know the law, but it soured what should have been a nice time. Then, my wife was trying to cross a road to catch up to me, and there would have been plenty of time, but a driver sped up so that she couldn't cross. There are a number of other direct, personal slams I've experienced, but I won't bore you. I just don't understand, because some of the people here are nice. Maybe it's the rising unemployment. Well, then maybe the city and the people should support new small businesses and entrepreneurs. God knows this town needs some new blood! If I could sum up the slogan of many of the people I've come in contact with, it would be "FU!" if you know what I mean. It would also be nice if when you pay someone to do their job, that they would do it right! Much of the culture here is Bud Light and nascar. I'll try to curb my disdain. I guess it's probably not that different from other places.

Idiots like you describe are in every community unfortuneately. They are also becoming the majority since it is obvious who was voted into the Whitehouse..

Whoa there! People being a**holes has nothing to do with Obama being president, unless you count the people that don't like him being upset that he won. There is no need to say that.
No one that I have come in contact with is being more of a jerk just because Obama is in the White House.

Sorry, did not mean to insult an Obama follower. I am not a Democrat but actually agreed with alot of things he said during campaign but should of known it was a bunch of bull just like "W" promised and it never happened in 8 yrs.
