Default What teams do Nebraskans route for?

I was wondering what teams Nebraskans route for? For college, it is Huskers definitely and I know of a few Nebraskans who are serious about their Huskers. I am not sure with pro teams since Nebraska is not as clear cut as eastern parts of South Dakota and North Dakota (who lean more towards Minnesota teams and the western areas of the states lean toward Colorado teams. Do Nebraskans lean with Minnesota, Chicago, Kansas City, or Denver teams when it comes to pro sports? Does it vary by region?

I would say its pretty split up and i think it does vary by region, although not strictly by any means.

I tend to pull for KC.

My dad's favorite team is Seattle and my mom's is Minnesota. My husband likes Green Bay. I varies greatly here. Quite a few people I know like teams that aren't from around the midwest.

NFL wise lots of Broncos and Chiefs fans, but also quite a few Vikings, Packers, and Bears fans. NBA no real dominant team. For MLB, the Royals used to be quite big in Nebraska, but once they started losing, fans spread out to different teams. At least this is what I have observed.

TheMac is on a distinguished road
Most of hte people I know (Lincoln/Omaha area) are in the KC teams camp. Royals, Chiefs, etc. Its really a quick trip (about 2 hours) from Omaha, if you drive like I do anyway.

I grew up in Colorado and I have a spot in my heart for the Denver Broncos. However after betting on them twice when they went to the Super Bowl and losing my bets, even though I was given 30+ points both times, I have switched to rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Baseball is not really my sport but during the 1970's I attended a few games of the Cubs. The atmosphere at those games was great and the fans were fantastic. So I guess the Cubbies are at the top of my list for baseball.

My NASCAR favorites are Jeff Gordan, Carl Edwards and Dale Jr.

PBR, bull riding favorites are anyone from Nebraska and the older Black gentlemen from Houston (Gary Phillips????) that always danced after he stayed on for the 8 seconds. I haven't seen him for several years now so I guess he finally retired. I am sorry I can't remember his name but over the years I think I enjoyed watching him even more than the younger top riders. Not many people over 40 have the guts to climb on a bull time after time like he did. Heck not many 20 year olds have the guts to climb on.

If anyone remembers that cowboys name please post it for me.

GL2

Long time Omahans will recall that Omaha once co-hosted the KC-Omaha Kings at the Civic Auditorium (ie Omaha 'had' an NBA franchise)... although I'm unaware of anyone in town who still pulls for the LA Kings today.

In my corner of Neb, folks cheer for the Denver Donkeys.

Personally, we're not really into pro sports in my house. Unless you count PRCA, that is.

According to DH who is from Omaha, it comes and goes. His choices: Kansas City, St. Louis and Chicago.

Usually, I go into a sports-related store such as Scheels and get a pretty good gauge of teams that are popular. I see lot of Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cards items and a mix for football: Broncos, Packers, Vikings (not as much as in South Dakota of course), Bears, and Cheifs. I do not see Nebraska as clear cut as South Dakota for general local pro team loyalty. In South Dakota is the Vikings (which I despise and call the Viqueens), Twins, T-Wolves, and Wild are popular local teams in the eastern half and Broncos, Rockies, Nuggests, and Avalanche in the western half. Many in South Dakota follow Big 12 or Big 10 sports and some like Duke and North Carolina and the Florida teams.

In my area, it is more of a mixed bag. The rural areas along with a good following in the larger towns follow the local teams.

I do not follow the local teams as much, although I do not mind the Twins and T-Wolves. I like the Broncos, Avalanche, and Nuggets for Denver. I route for the 49ers (NFL), Mariners (MLB), LA Lakers (NBA), and Avalanche (NHL). I am a fan of Big Twelve college sports and am a fan of Jayhawks basketball and I get teased by my friends, especially my Nebraska friend who is a Huskers fanatic (we have debates, but it is in good measure and fun).
