You both can check out what the story was in Nebraska in 2003 by putting Branden Gonzales into the search engine.

Then you will see why they will take this very seriously there in Plattsmouth.

Hooiser67 I will also send you a personal e-mail to tell you about something that I know about this story that should have been done that was not.

Take care.

I have taken out a few kids from bad homes and put parents in jail and long prison terms for endangering children. It just takes someone like you to get the ball rolling along and you will need to give it a little time, unless on the first visit they find something, for action to take place.
Good for you! We need more caring cops like you in this world.
You made a huge diffrenece in the lives of many kids.

I've graduated in psychology and human services and after a vast many social work classes I've unfortunately learned this. As long as that child is clean, receiving shelter, adequate food and clothing, and is receiving school if necessary (I realize you said the child was three, but for future reference I suppose), then there isn't jack you can do. They can send that child out in the snow without a coat, gloves, or boots if they wanted to and as long as the child wasn't outside for an obscene amount of time or they didn't get sick, those parents are basically scot free. I'd say based on what you tell me now, it is unlikely to even get a social worker over there, though you may have a shot for at least a visit. However, like implied in a previous post, this is really more of a scare tactic, there is very little that social worker is going to be able to do for that child due to the situation unless there is more endangerment to the child than stated. Unfortunately, state to state believes in the child staying with the mother/family. Reunification is key if the child must be taken out of the home and for a situation like you've described, like I said, unless there is more endangerment of neglect and/or abuse, there's nothing you can do.

Whats even crazier is that either of that child's parents can use alcohol and marijuana frequently and probably obsessively, and the child will remain at home. They only remove children for harder drugs. Kind of messed up I know. What it comes down to, though it sucks, is that you either need a better understanding of the situation and exactly what it entails to present further details to an agency, or there's really nothing you can do!

Okay, that's not the question.

They have a three year old son who I am very concerned about. The mother has met three to four men (that I know of) on the internet and had relationships with them. These men have lived with her, or she has been over at their house/apartment regularly...with the little boy. Or she leaves the little boy with her ex-husband (who mind you is fully aware of everything and has met all of these guys). I have talked to the ex about getting custody of his son but he doesn't want to. And until today I was surprised that he didn't want custody. Today he tells me that he allows his three year old to go outside with mittens that aren't warm enough for below zero temps! Okay, these people have been my friends on and off for close to 15 years. I've never met the son, however, as a dad with two young kids under the age of 8 I'm disgusted by their parenting. She's sleeping around and he just doesn't care. I'm only posing this question to this forum since they live in Nebraska and wanted to get your feedback on what is allowable in NE and if I should even say anything.
Its good that you are concerned but if I were you I'd just stay out of this one...

It doesn't sound like they are breaking any laws (sleeping around isn't against the law) and she may be exposing the child to an alternative lifestyle but there is no harm in that... Everyone doesn't conform to the "sunday-dinner" lifestyle and it is their decision on how to raise their child, no matter how much u make think it is disgusting...

And unless there is physical harm or neglect being done to the child, the state wont take him away from his mother...

So i'd steer clear of this one!

I know this is a little off topic but I couldn't resist sorry...

Im tired of hearing all the hype about marijuana...

Honestly, my wife and I use marijuana in front of our son on a regular basis and there is nothing wrong with what we are doing! People (and the government) have come up with all these misconceptions about Marijuana and its usage... Everything from the hysterical claims of the 1920's who claimed "Marijuana usage will make you murder your brother" to the commonplace "Marijuana cause cognitive deficiencies in unborn children"

And guess what??? They are all completely unsubstantiated... That's right, there has been no research, not one nanometer of evidence to support these claims... Google it if you don't believe me! The government literally pulled these claims out of their arses just like with the whole "Weapons of Mass Destruction" claim!

The truth about Marijuana is that is a very mild depressant to help one relax, increase appetite, and i believe it actives the artistic side of the brain!

That is all that has been proven!

And the carcinogenic effects of the smoke can cause lung problems... same as Tobacco (but not as bad because unlike tobacco, one cannot get Emphasima as a result of smoking Cannabis as the molecule of the smoke is larger and cannot rip holes in the lining of the lungs).

Alcohol is a much worse drug than Marijuana ever could be and yet it is the one that is legal!

1. Alcohol poisoning (can't overdose on MJ)
2. Violent behavior ( mellowed out behavior for MJ users)
3. Addiction (alcohol can be addictive MJ is much less addictive if even addictive at all [depends on your personal addictiveness]).
4. Brain cell damage (binge drinking can cause brain cell damage and MJ has yet to be proven to cause cell damage, no matter what you have heard)
5. Marijuana has many medical benefits from helping people relieve painful disorders such as cancer and MS among others, what medicinal uses does Alcohol have?)

Also Cannabis is practically legal in most parts of the industrialized world from parts of Canada to many countries in the EU, so perhaps that is why the state won't take away children of parents who use cannabis!

I say within 20 years Cannabis will be fully legalized in the US and the controlled substance classification will be repealed, clearing the way for states to decide the issue!
