My 'ex' hometown of Fremont is known for having its alchol-anonymous location right in between two bars, and its downtown has a bar for every 2 other type of business..

YIKES. That is a hard pill to swallow!!!
Never have frequented Fremont much. I guess on the brighter side, they do have Fremont Lakes and the Dinner Train (if it is still running to Hooper and back?)

Yes, the Dinner Train is still running.
There is a famous actress from North Bend, born in Fremont. Marg Helgenberger is on CSI.
Larry the Cable Guy is from Pawnee City.

Valentino's and Runza both make me think of Lincoln.

Eh, most Omahans don't eat Omaha Steaks either... sometimes we'll ship them to friends/relatives outside the state though.

I've not been to the Union Pacific Museum in years
|
Of course it was originally in the Union Pacific headquarters building which has since been razed for the Wall Street Tower. If you haven't been to the Union Pacific Museum in Council Bluffs... it's wonderful. If you're a train buff you'll want to visit the railroad garden at Lauritzen Gardens, Rock Island Station museum in Council Bluffs, and Kenefick Park adjacent Lauritzen Gardens with it's two enormous historic locomotives overlooking the I-80 bridge leading into Omaha.

I loved watching The Road Less Traveled online! I even emailed our ABC affiliate here in Sioux Falls to recommend that they do a similar feature.
I think Runza is a big icon for Lincoln. Everytime I go to Omaha, I eat at one .
Nebraska City - Arbor Day

Excellent Point MJ. Not sure how I could have forgot about Arbor Day!! Probably the only "national day" that at least I can think of that was brought forth from a Nebraska community!!
I just wish Runza would leave their Italian Runza's on the menu year round! I swear I gain 10lbs. when they are on the menu and if they were a regular item I'd be able to curb my need...LOL
I am sure there are many obvious "icons" I am missing for sure
