Why the Hostility Racechick?
Racechick, you seem a bit hostile.
I have only read a few of yours posts in the forum but here's the common theme, "get over yourself, your experiences are self-inflicted, if you have doubts about my great city, don't come here" I think you're looking for insults from posts from people on this site, and when one doesn't exist, you imagine to yourself that there was an insult somewhere in the message, get riled up, and type your venomous replies.
I can assuure you, this is not the case. I have not come on to insult you or anyone else. I do not look down on anyone, you've got this part all wrong--hahah--I've got a self-depreacting sense of humor and I'm just a really chill girl with a lot of questions and uncertainty about what my life will be like for the next three years. Please be advised that all my questions are meant to be informative to me, and the way I phrase them should not be offensive to you. If you have a less offensive way for me to ask a question, then by all means, correct me.
I think you're just really angry, to tell you the truth, and I have no idea why. It can't be from anything I've said. No one else seems to have been offended (if you have been offended, please DO NOT come out of the wood works now--it would ruin my entire argument, I would say, wait at least a month to let it be known, thanks! LOL) . And that last post about the drugs and divorces--hahhahah--okay, I'm not even going to reply to that. It does crack me up, though. Thanks.

So if what you're telling me is that you do not, in fact, see Nebraska natives as a bunch of hicks, then I stand corrected.

So glad to see that you're such a sweet, stand-up kind of gal. Good luck in Omaha.

What the heck??
Cafe hasn't ever come across as a "me me me" individual. She came on here (about the same time I did by the way) and was simply asking questions about Lincoln, NE. She's lived in California all her life and was a little afraid of culture shock...and that's a reasonable concern.
As far as "her generation" that's just a silly comment. You're 34...I'm 31...and I'm guessing Cafe is probably 23 to 25ish. We are all the same generation!! Racechick, I think you have some sort of paranoid idea that all people who choose the city professional city life are these selfish family hating money grubbing drug doing fools. And all people who are married with a family living in a small town possess the moral highground.
Well, just as you know people who got divorced when they were older, I know people who got married at 21 and were divorced in 5 years because, as they put it, "they got married too young". Statistics clearly show that people who get married later in life have a lower divorce rate...which means really very little, but don't try to claim the opposite.
Plus, drugs don't just exist in the "big city". That's a 1980's idea. With crystal meth easily synthesized drugs are every where now, as is domestic violence and infidelity. Although I used to believe my tiny little hometown had the moral highground, after living in the Lincoln/Omaha area and working and speaking all over the U.S. and world I soon realized this was simply not true.
Cafe is a young girl going to law school in the midwest...why wouldn't her social life be on her mind??
Before you fire back...I am a "Nebraska hick". I grew up in town of a 100 people and absolutely loved it. I am also now in Lincoln and soon moving to Omaha. I'm a scientist that will be going back to school...ironically, I'll be in Cafe's 1st year law class. I can be a hick, an intellect, and a family man all at the same time. Things are not one or the other. And the fact that cafe likes to go out and have fun does not mean she's self centered.
In fact, instead of attacking cafe you should be applauding her. She is packing up and leaving California to move to "hickville Nebraska". She obviously can't be that superficial.

Whoa- you have thoroughly overstimulated me, matt!
I guess your impression of cafe and mine were completely different.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Its been really interesting reading the 13 pages of post regarding this topic, particularly because Cafe's situation closely resembles my own. I, too, am from California and recently made the difficult decision of picking a law school for this fall. I chose to get out of the state of California for law school and look forward to attending the UNL.
Though the comments were not directed toward me, I want to thank everyone for the helpful information that was given in describing your area. It has definitely helped pacify many of the concerns I had in terms of Culture Shock (though maybe not quite to the extent of Cafe's lol). I now feel every confident in my decision and look forward to this fall.
Cafe, I read that you attended UCI. Though Im from Northern California, I attended UC San Diego and had many friends in the southern california region. Being how Im not going to know a soul when I arrive, we should definitely get together when school starts. Never hurts to know someone during orientation.

jfucsd10,
Welcome to Nebraska. Hope that you enjoy your time in Nebraska. We will even let you cheer for and wear USC colors when they come to Lincoln this fall.

kosnebbear,
I appreciate the kind words.
Rest assure that I will be wearing UNL colors for the USC game. As a die hard Cal Bears fan, I would rather face certain forms of death before putting on the Red and Gold.
I purchased the season football tickets and really look forward to adopting the cornhuskers this fall. All in all, should be a great experience.

You will find the Cornhusker fans some of the best in the country. If you get to one of the home games will see something that does not happen in most other college football games. The fans will stand after the game and give the other team a standing ovation no matter the out come of the game. If you wear the other teams colors to several of the main bars/nightclubs in the downtown area the fans most likely will buy you dirnks to welcome you to Nebraska.
But I can understand your team support for the Cal Bears. We support any other team that is playing Texas or Oklahoma. Guess it goes with being a fan.

Juf, welcome (early) to UNL Law!
It will be really interesting to see Cali students here! Last year there was one lady from San Jose who was in our class. I don't know of anyone else. I hope you and Cafe are starting to get excited! Last year at this time I was very nearly vibrating with joy.
I'll be there during orientation giving tours to the incoming 1Ls, I'm looking forward to seeing everyone who's gearing up for the stuff that will be coming at you!
Let me know if you need any tips, or want to pick up some cheap study aids. I think I have nearly all of them! Hehe. I don't think I would have made it through school without em. Be sure you join the SBA before you buy your books, you'll get a 10% discount at the bookstore.
