I have heard in Florida that they have alligators coming onto peoples' property every now and then. In southern Florida, even crocodiles come into the city. It might be scary to a lot of people, but I think it would be neat to see something like that around your house, as long as it isn't harming anything.

I live in Orange County, CA, right now, and you know, I've been hearing non-stop that I am making a huge mistake in choosing Nebraska. I could go to Seattle, Miami, No. Cali, Boston, or stay where I am at, but none of these other schools are offering me a full ride. So in truth, I am scared to death of leaving here, since Nebraska has certain connotations of being unfriendly and full of corns and cows. I know I shouldn't buy into the stereotypes of Nebraska, but it's hard when I know no one from that area. Thus, I wanted to come on this board and ask people's opinions. I sure hate the cold, but I don't think I should let lethal winters sway me from a free law education. I've been reading the thread on Lincoln, and I'm hearing the shopping sucks (ahhhh!!), the food is bland, and the weather is unpredictable. Can I get any reassurance whatsoever that it won't be so bad?? LOL. I'm sure there are positives of Lincoln, but I am not hearing them, even from people who live there. Perhaps someone can truly enlighten me on how it's like to live there? Thanks!
I think you should do it! A full ride for law school... thats a lot of dough you'd be saving... I think I'd take that in any city as long as its an accredited school and UNL is!

I moved from Cali (bay area) to Omaha, NE and I never noticed a "nebraska way" of doing anything... It was all pretty much the same except soda is called pop thats about it! No strangers ever waived at me in Omaha!

And there is less Asians and Mexicans but that didn't bother me much cause there are a lot of very sexy beautiful African American women instead and they are way sexier... Esp. the refugees from Sudan (the americanized ones) OMG.... But anyway Omaha is like 40 miles Northeast and has everything u could want... except for Jack in the Box!

FYI, this law school post was from last year. And she did end up attending law school at UNL.

I realize she is in law school now, but I have to reply because I am slightly offended.

First off, I think UNL has a great campus, with a lot of greenspace.
The campus is downtown, the heart of the city. There are plenty of small and unique clothing stores and many coffeehouses within walking distance.

She said she was worried about shows not coming to Lincoln. Well, Omaha is 50 minutes away...and home of the Omaha scene. Indie rock thrives there, and many amazing bands are from Nebraska, such as Cursive. Not to mention the Quest and Mid-America Center.

I realize this is not a big city, but there is plenty of diversity--especially in a college town. And, I personally drive a Honda--so make that 2 people plus 40,000 other Honda drivers in Lincoln.

I think its helpful to have tolerance for others questions no matter how lame or offensive they may seem to those reading them. Intolerance is a sign of ignorance.
