I may be moving to Omaha, for TD Ameritrade soon. I believe that is located off 80 and 680.

My question is where is a nice/decent area for young single people to live. I am not interested in living downtown. I want to get the most for my money rent wise and want to be in a nice area. Little traffic, shops close by, close access to highway. Close to other younger folks.

Can you help me out here?

Well that's too bad. Downtown would be what you're looking for. No traffic since I can walk to everything down here. It's close to many younger people such as myself, we live in the best part of town close to shops, restaurants, bars, clubs. Also it's a straight shot down the South Freeway, 24th St, or 13th St to TDA.

You're really missing out. I would hope you reconsider.

West Omaha...safe and sound. Good place to put down some roots. Plus it's close to your work, you will save a ton of money in gas.

Default Papillion/La Vista

I'd recommend living in the Papillion/La Vista area. It was voted one of the best places to live for a city its size. They are suburbs of Omaha and very close by. Plus there's a lot of development going on (Shadow Lake Towne Center and the business park on Giles and the Interstate). It's close to the interstate. I think its an ideal location.

Papillion was 6th Best Place in the Nation by CNN/Money Magazine for 2007. Here is the link to the article.

Any place where the city spends the least per pupil spending? Why does a single person like me pay for high quality schools?

There are a ton of apartment options in the area you will be working. Look near 120th Blondo. There are six or seven complexes all within a very close proximity at difference price ranges. The Richdale Group manages many of them.

Here is the breakdown of spending per student (based on '06-/07 data) - lowest to highest:

$7,853 Millard
$8,099 Bellevue
$8,341 Papillion LaVista
$8,420 Lincoln
$8,798 Ralston
$9,023 (statewide average)
$9,025 Westside
$9,026 Omaha

I won't answer the second question - that could be a whole discussion thread of its own - also why does an elderly person for for high quality schools, why does an employed person pay for welfare, why does someone without a drivers license help pay for city street repair, why does someone who never goes to the park and never fishes pay taxes to the NRD, why does someone that has never had a health problem, a fire, or an emergency help pay for fire protection, lots of very similiar style questions...
