It is going to be very interesting when these gay marriages end up in divorce courts. After all if gay marriage is legal isn't it automatic that gay divorces would be legal also? I can just imagine some of the "community property" settlements judges will have to make.

This thread provides me with much entertainment.
The is something I found on the web which may be entertaining for both sides of the subject.

Top Ten Reasons to Make Gay Marriage Illegal
01) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.
02) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
03) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
04) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasnít changed at all like many of the principles on which this great country was founded; women are still property, blacks still canít marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.
05) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of marriages like Britney Spearsí 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

06) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldnít be allowed to marry because our orphanages arenít full yet, and the world needs more children.
07) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
08) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. Thatís why we have only one religion in America.
09) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. Thatís why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.
10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we havenít adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

Wasn't there a story about this awhile back. . Some gay couple got married, then after that legislation passed and their marriage wasn't recognized anymore, then they wanted to get a divorce, but they couldn't because their marriage wasn't recognized.

For those that have followed it, would you consider the recent issue with the World-Herald (OWH initially denied a lesbian couple the right to list their engagement in the "Celebrations" section and then backtracked slightly, allowing those who are legally married the right to list there) a victory or a defeat? The couple seems strong, positive, and willing to use their situation to help better others in the future:

I think it's a victory, any change we can cause here is a victory.

Neither. OWH is a business trying to make money. . They have people that are legally engaged or married wanting to give them money to announce it. It makes business sense to take money from people that want to give it to you.

To suggest that the OWH printing this celebration is some kind of endorsement of gay marriage, or in some way makes it more legitimate or moral in the eyes of those that oppose it, or that it's some landmark victory for gay couples is just incorrect.

Isn't engagement a steppingstone to marriage?

Where they gonna get married?

A " marriage" not recognized by the state you live in isn't a " marriage".

Maybe some polygamist will announce his engagement to 3 women.

His state wouldn't recognize his upcoming " marriage" to them either.

Gee wonder why they didn't think of that, hmmmm maybe they are just attempting to draw some press to further a cause. Or set up a lawsuit? Either what do you expect out of the Wierd Herald.

That or they're printing an engagement announcement so that those in Omaha are aware of their marriage in council bluffs, which is a whopping 30 seconds from Omaha.

I'm sure no Council Bluffs straight couple has ever published an engagement announcement in Omaha though.
