What are You Doing For Thanksgiving?
Are you staying home, or visiting relatives, or going hunting, or planning a vacation?
Since the school gets out on Wednesday at 1 PM, I'll have a half day off before Thanksgiving. I've already started the cooking and baking, but it is supposed to be warm Wednesday - upper 50's - so we may go ahead and hang the Christmas lights. (Is there any feeling worse than hanging hundreds of 'stupid tiny lights' while your hands are freezing in their gloves and your toes are freezing in their boots, wrapped around a ladder that is cold and slippery? )
But the Christmas fruitcakes are made, and I have to clean the horseradish root and get it packaged with the pickles for shipping for presents. We have a nice turkey in the freezer and eight more on the hill awaiting dispatch. There may be some pre-sunup, early morning ventures out into the pasture.
Since our daughter was here for the past two weeks, and my brother the long-dstance truck driver came by this past Saturday, we are not expecting company, and we are not going anywhere - so it will be just us. We will have lots of food and probably a fire going this weekend. Once we get the lights up and the Christmas gifts packed, we can relax and enjoy the "downhill slide" into the Winter Solstice of early dark evenings and long black starry nights. We love this time of year!
Happy Thanksgiving!

We will be heading to Kearney for a family Thanksgiving with my parents. We only have to make pies this year. We'll be making pumpkin, carmel apple and cherry/mulberry pies.

Son is home from college this week and spending Thanksgiving with a lot of extended family and my parents - with kids getting older and my parents being up there it could be one of the last times that entire extended family is together (and healthy). Should be a good time since everyone gets along (and its not at our house).
tpabes: congrats on that star that's now showing on your reputation!

Every year we rent a hall and have a very large get together, we average a little over 200 people. There is Bingo in the afternoon, people bring white elephant prizes. There is always the football game going on outside. We invite the police officers who have to work, people that have no where to go, widows/widowers who are home alone. There are people there that I have no clue who they are, but by the end of the day they are new friends. A few years ago the grey hound bus came in and somebody noticed people standing outside waiting for the next bus, next thing I know we are putting plates together and running them up to the bus station. We have done this for the last 9 years, sadly this year we will not be having this for my aunt forgot to get the hall rented in time. so we are going to my parents for thanksgiving with just about 20 family members. It will feel odd not carving 6 turkeys this year.

I'll be sleeping, I'm working the graveyard shift for 12 days straight. The good news is I get leftovers, And turkey seems to taste so much better the day after thanksgiving.

A lot of my brother friends from Creighton are coming to stay here, along with my cousins, aunts and uncles and my Grandparents, so we will have quite a few people over.

It's alittle late, but my my husband and I drove to Indiana to visit his side of the family. It was a great trip, and we had a nice time, but I sure missed my family.
We also were bummed b/c the Nebraska/Colorado game barely came in on her acrage (she didn't get ABC). But, all in all, it was a good time and it was nice to see his family.
