College student in Scottsbluff
I am 19 and looking to go to the University of Nebraska in Scottsbluff, and i have to say i am a little nervous. obviously it is a small town but are there some larger cities near by, that maybe have more of a downtown setting, and some night life? are there many people in my age group? are drugs an issue? and please tell me there is at least wal-mart!?

There's about 22 thousand people in the area. Wal Mart, yes. Downtown night life, you could be very disappointed. Median age is around 36. Yes there will be poeple your age.

I'm sure there are a few bars that people your age frequent most. Aren't you 19? (I guess it never stopped me, though)

I"m guessing you are attending the nursing school? Like burgerflippers said there is a decent population (for Nebraska) in that area. There is a Super Wal-mart, Target, K-mart, Home Depot, Menards and a small mall. Its a regional shopping center for the area so it does have quite a few amenities. There should be some people your age around, Scottsbluff does have a community college. As far as nightlife, I'm sure there are some bars and places for you to hang out. Otherwise your going to have to head 3 hours to Denver for big time nightlife or Ft. Collins for a college town.
I'm sure you have your reasons for Scottsbluff, but have you considered taking the nursing program in Lincoln or Omaha? Those would give you the larger city and nightlife.

thanks for your reply thats really helpful. But i am going to school now at UNC in greeley co. and the scottsbluff and greeley nursing departments work together so by going to scottsbluff i would be getting in-state tuition and my credits will transfer smoothly. How are the schools, what kind of reputation do they have?

Makes sense. I know the nursing program has a good rep in Omaha and Lincoln, so I see no reason why the same quality wouldn't occur in Scottsbluff.

It has been a few years.... but when I was 18 I lived in Scottsbluff and we would go to Torrington Wyoming to the bar there.. Fun bar, good dancing.. Just make sure you bring your designated driver.
