White Enlightening is on a distinguished road
I was born and raised in Kearney and have to say that it is a great town to raise a family in. It's still mostly white and peaceful because they haven't let any packing plants come to town. I'm considering moving back there one day. It's one of the few towns in Nebraska that I would choose to live in. It's big enough that there is stuff to do but small enough to still give you that hometown feeling. I've been to most of the other mid-sized towns in Nebraska and have also lived in Lincoln and Omaha; and I'd have to say that Kearney is by far my favorite. But I might be a little biased.

The nice thing about Kearney is that it has UNK, the hospital, the Buckle headquarters etc. These all attract middle to upper class families. Most of Kearney is filled will good middle class white people. Grand Island is tainted by the packing plant; there are more and more immigrants there by the day. There are parts of town that are completely Mexican, and many new Somalian immigrants too. I'm not a fan of GI. Hastings is a little better although I'd say there is a lot more lower class families there, not much going on in town to bring in money.

The school system is great in Kearney as well. I love going back there. It reminds me of my childhood innocence before I was exposed to the problems that we face. In Kearney when I was younger I never even thought about such things.

Wow I love the thinly veiled racism in your posts. Not all problems stem from an influx of non-white citizens. It's pretty sad you've come to believe that.

roots'nbulbs will become famous soon enoughroots'nbulbs will become famous soon enough
For everyone out there who just read White Enlightening, I want you to know that one of the BEST things that happened in Kearney was the University coming into town, in about 1990. With it came the beautiful mosaic of students and professors from varying cultures and race. We laughed at ourselves, at that time, that finally there would be some really good restaurants...and, it happened. First, we picked up some Asian cuisine, adding that to Bico's who, at the time, was Portuguese and made those fantastic oblong hamburgers.

In such a white town, it was good to show our children that other races were not necessarily besot with poverty and low education. Instead, we had neighbors who taught us a thing or two about the world.

Since then, Kearney has soared.

White Unenlightened, let me lift the load from your shoulders: I just sent a little girl home who was playing with my granddaughter, talking like you just did but also using perjoratives. I explained that we try to overlook the downfalls of people who work for low wages and we try to help them achieve our middle class privelege of formal education.

Illegal immigration is not an issue on this one. Teaching children a work ethic and morals is; so, maybe their very, WHITE skin can do ALL the work for less pay than it takes to buy the house they may THINK they can afford. Is that what white skin is worth? You know what I mean, I hope.

I know what you're saying about GI and Hastings when you address trashy neighborhoods and wonder if business and money can be coming out of them. But, don't forget that's caused by poverty and ignorance, not multi-culturalism. If we are not open to people who are different, who is going to do the work and then where will the money come from?

By the way, Hastings and GI are really good places to live. Both, have beautiful homes and head room for the arts.

Interesting that White Enlightening has only made that one post on here?? Seems like maybe they had to make a fake account to spew their ugly thoughts. I wonder who they really are??

By the way I heard Kearney is getting a Sushi place. I can't wait to check it out next time we are in town. That's my main gripe about Kearney is the lack of unique dining options.

They are getting a new Sushi place. The guy has one in North Platte and is expanding into Kearney.
