Kearney
I've been reading the Grand Island thread...Does Kearney have the same immigration, crime and drug problems that GI does? There are some very in depth replies to the GI thread...could I possibly get some of those on Kearney???

No, Kearney does not have those problems, to a large extent anyway. Grand Island has plants that tend to attract immigrants, where Kearney does not. Kearney also has the lowest crime rate of the tri-cities, at least according to City Data. This is not to say that crime and drugs are not in Kearney.
I will add that Grand Island is not some horrible place. If you come to Kearney you might find yourself heading to Grand Island to shop at Best Buy, Sam's and other places that are not in Kearney.

no it doesn't, Lexington does about 45 minutes away. Kearney has Univ of Ne at Kearney, so you'll find more college students than "immigrants". I went to college there.

Yeah, that.
GI has its problems, but is not like a ghetto or anything. Some parts of town are rough, but nothing in comparison to a larger city, like even Omaha.

..
The tri-cities of Grand Island, Kearney and Hastings and all of the other towns are all growing.. This is not a stagnant area, and as a matter of fact this area is growing at the national growth rate, with some areas (notably Kearney at well above the national rate, and a little less so is Grand Island and Hastings) is growing at faster than the national rate..
Here is the city sizes of the largest tri-cities area:
City: 2007 est 2000 census
Kearney city 30,129 27,431
Grand Island city 44,802 42,940
Hastings city 25,343 24,064
Also to note that the smaller towns in this area are growing too.. This area of the state is more than important just off of location alone, but it is a very vital area for education, health-care, retail, entertainment amongst many other vital things you look for in a lifestyle, and as you can see this part of the state is doing very well..
